I'm moving to the Tulsa area from Massachusetts, and have a few questions.

What is the job market like for someone who has a lot of IT and clerical experience as well as a college degree? I'm taking some time off before continuing school.

How long do I have before I have to register my car in Oklahoma?

Are there any especially good moving companies or ways to move? I'm on a rather tight budget and can't fit all of the things that need to move in the car.

You might be better off renting a uhaul, packing it up,and then towing the car behind it. As far as jobs, my wife had a degree before we moved here and it took here over a year to find a job. The manufacturing had picked up some in tulsa but skilled jobs still seem hard to find in my opinion. We have several energy companies. I would suggest applying to them and getting with a job finding service soon as you get here.

If you're a new resident, you must register 30 days after you become an official resident. After that, you must pay a late fee.

My Fiance has been out of work (HR) for a year and a half. We are now moving out of state for a job for him. Most of my friends in IT are either freelancing, working at Best Buy, underemployed, or are going back to school for something else. Your best bet for a clerical position is probably a temp agency, and try to get hired on permanently somewhere from that. Even then, temp agencies are overflowing because of so many people out of work.

Very truthfully, I wouldn't move down unless you already have a job secured, unless you are willing to wait tables until you find something. The job market is dismal.

"SouthernBelleFromHell" = best username on the Oklahoma forum. Could that moniker be applied to all Oklahoma women?

Uh oh, here comes my wife, better shut my trap!

To the job situation, the best thing to do is start networking. You can not sit at home and hope applications will get you a job.

Ditto temp work to get on full time. Most companies want a test drive anymore (everywhere!).

But join a church or club and start talking to people about your skills and your desires. Tulsa employment is cliquish, but once you're in you'll love it. Most people in Tulsa are terribly loyal to employers, do a great job, and stay forever!
