I am fairly new to Tulsa and looking at houses. Being from the Chicago area, I cannot believe how cheap houses here are. I was looking at some homes in the McClure park neighborhood. This neighborhood seems nice enough for the wife and me, but I saw some sketchy houses to the east near one of the universities.

Any thoughts about buying over there? Is the neighborhood bad? It would be a short term thing since I have to relocate every 5-6 years for my jobs.

What neighborhoods north of 41st would you recommend for a couple looking to have kids soon with houses in the 60-90k range?

I would look b/t 11th street and 31st, Harvard to Sheridan. There are a few spots in here you can even go up to about 3rd street and still be OK. Most of the area of about 1 mile around the fairgrounds are still good neighborhoods as long as they are single family houses. McClure park is closer to Memorial and may still be just as good but I simply don't know that area as well. The illegals have been a problem in pockets in some areas.

McClure Park area on a very long slow decline, but it still looks ok and is probably ok.
