Politics in Oklahoma pretty much runs on the 3 G's, meaning to come across as pro God, pro gun and to be against gays. Most Tulsans and other Oklahomans absolutely do not believe in equal rights for gays. In other words, they firmly believe that a Christian employer should be perfectly free to show a gay person the door the instant it becomes exposed that there's one in the workplace. One thing for sure, most Tulsans are against same sex marriage.

After his last reelection victory Sen. Inhofe said he believed he won as a result of standing up for the 3 G's. And according to recent polls most Oklahomans approve of Inhofe. It's doubtful he will have trouble winning again in 2008.

What is a Libertarian? Haha... J/K..... Most everyone I know is Conservative in values, if not Republican...... I was surprised, however, that McCain won Oklahoma. I thought Huckabee would win because of the values he stands for.... It was VERY close, obviously.... I heard that Tulsans voted for Huckabee more and OKCins voted for McCain more. I guess that may show the difference between the 2 towns.....

There are libertarians in Oklahoma. The party's web site: Libertarian Party of Oklahoma

In Oklahoma it is hard to be on the ballot as a party without a certain percentage of votes from the previous election (I think).

Default Liberal and loving Tulsa!

Tulsa is 65% Republican, but...

It has the largest Unitarian church in the world and a second one to boot.
I heard it has the second largest gay and lesbian center also.
The arts district is growing.
There is also a Wholefoods.
It is beautiful and has clean air, low traffic, and a nice river walk.
It has some nice walkable neighborhoods.
Schools are good in many neighborhoods.

So far we have not seen any guns on belts (I am glad) - but it is a possibility here.
Although that is not our crowd.

Liberal and loving Tulsa!

North and midtown are liberal. The rest of the city and metro area are conservative.

Historically Tulsa has been more liberal but they say recently OKC has become more liberal. Both are among the most conservative large cities in the nation but they both have their liberal pockets. I see gay couples out and about in OKC quite often.

I think Tulsa is conservative in more of the sense that conservativism once was. You know, like back when the Republican Party was actually conservative and not the neo-con wackadoos they are now.

In my opinion and experience (and I've spent many years in Tulsa) the town has a more traditional conservativism happening, but as a whole is socially rather liberal (for Oklahoma, at least!)

For instance, I think the more true, pure forms of conservative principles dominate Tulsa, where there is the least amount of government involvement in peoples lives as possible, and where people don't attempt to legislate morality (i.e. same sex marriage, reproductive choice, etc.)
