There's now a bar called the vault (restaurant turned bar at night). More bars will be popping up soon, i just know it. I've lived here forever and it's about time.

It will be slow and quiet compared to Las Vegas. For a living? It's like anywhere else; multiple things relative to ones' education, training or skills. The social scene will depend on your style and taste. There's a variety and things will depend on what area of town you choose to live. That will be up to your taste.

We can guide you if you let us know what lifestyle you prefer.

Where will you be going to school?

Hello! My husband and I are moving to Tulsa at the 1st of April, 2011 to help with the care of my paternal grandparents who are in their 90's and need someone living in the house with them. We are moving from south central KY (campbellsville) and are looking forward to being in a bigger city with more employment and college opportunities. Both of us are going to try to get back in school and finish our degrees. I know that their is alot of crime in tulsa, but can you please let me know specifically what areas are the worst and are the ones to avoid so I can gain some perspective of where to look for work, shopping, etc. My husband and I are in our early 30's just in case that might be of help and we have a dog and like to be outdoors, so what parks are safe? Also, we are also looking for a christian or non-denominational church with alot of couples and families around our age that is more contemporary than traditional and spirit-filled...the church we attend now has wonderful sing-along live music band that plays music like you would hear on the radio station K-LOVE, and is very open for expression and worshipping....any suggestions here?? Hope you can help us and any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

This same question keeps popping up over and over. Maybe the Mods would consider a sticky to deal with this FAQ.

I think a crime map of Tulsa can be found at the Tulsa World newspaper website.

I wouldn't say there is a lot of crime in Tulsa overall and is about what you would expect for a city of nearly 400,000 people. But there are definitely some areas more crime-prone than others, like any city. If you are looking for the areas with the least-amount of crime in the city then your best bet is from northwest of downtown to downtown itself to midtown to south and southwest Tulsa across the river. There are fine parts of north/northeast/east Tulsa but they are statistically higher crime than the other areas. As is the case anywhere crime usually clusters in areas where there are low income apartments. If you're interested in a particular neighborhood or part of town we can give you more information.

True and good post, SouthXSW. But I never said there was a lot of crime in Tulsa. I'll leave that discussion for the locals.

I merely said every newb asks the same question. ''I am thinking of moving to OK and am wondering about the crime in Tulsa..."

Yeah I hear that sometimes, mainly on this forum, and wonder why. Maybe it's north Tulsa's reputation. Tulsa's pretty safe for a city its size.

The Church at Battle Creek and Church on the Move come to mind....also a LifeChurch satellite church would probably work too. Many of the larger Southern Baptist churches will offer more contemporary music if you're into that.

Blessings and welcome to the South-Central.

The local TV channels seem to think that headlining the crime reports (meth lab fires, robberies, gang shootings) is their bread and butter, and it may be.
It used to be "News, Weather and Sports", now it's "Crime, Weather and Sports."
