I had to also comment about all the weirdos on the central coast of CA. Couldn't pass that one up. It's really strange there, indeed. (and, I agree, not like anywhere else in CA) We go there for weekend get-away type trips because it is so beautiful. One time though, we went to Montecito to stay at a b&b. The place gave us such a creepy feeling, we ended up leaving and finding someplace else. Ended up, the people that owned the new one, the wife grew up about 10 houses down from where we were living then. Funny coincidence.
Yes there are some strange people in some areas We always went to a little B@B called Cyrstle Terrace Inn got our room with the fireplace very romatic and they serve a really nice Breakfast .It's in Carmel

I moved here 2 and a half months ago after seeing Riverside go down hill fast. I did visit first, have friends who live here, but that just made me sure about moving. I had to ask out of my lease a few months early but since they were trying to empty the place they agreed or I'd just now be moving.

There certainly is culture shock. The people here are incredably friendly. The skies are *blue*. Not the wishy washy blue of socal but this bright blue. If you come from santa ana wind territory the wind isn't that noticable (would be noticable if there was none). There is none of that "get it done yesterday" attitude which is maddening at first for the most laid back of us cali refugees.

The first thunder storm, right after arriving, didn't shut off the power...mistake. Second one I did and was all nervous. Next one I tried to take pics but the rain was too steady and didn't want to get the new camera wet and dozed off during the last one...

Also lots of us... After being here and thinking of what socal is/has become its not surprising. I'm between OKC and Tulsa, and there are lots of trees and hills and miles of space with not much else. Its amazing to someone from surbialopilus.

Don't remember where your origional message is, but if you can come and make a short visit. I still don't know what winter has to offer but would never ever go back to socal.

If you come with the attitude that you want what is here rather than wanting to bring socal with you you should be in for a great change. Somehow I doubt the people that miss it last too long.
