"When higher-paid workers lose their jobs, it lowers average salaries. When lower-wage workers lose their jobs but people like bankruptcy lawyers and doctors all keep working, it raises average salaries. And the bottom falling out of a city's economy is not a healthy development.

But in some cities, rising wages do indicate relatively healthy economies. Average wages in Tulsa, Okla., rose 2.6% while unemployment registered a fairly benign 6%."

According to a Forbes article this month, Tulsa is rated #2 in the nation where wages are growing the most.

#1 Phoenix, AZ
#2 Tulsa, OK
#3 Baltimore, MD (an area high in health care, government jobs, and technology based careers)

I was pleasantly impressed with Tulsa last time I went there, part of the low unemployment rate in OK however is with oil and mineral drilling, which is industry specific. But if you go East just an hour away you'll be in NW arkansas which the scenary and job growth is splendid and with a slightly more diversification of industries.

HAHAHA good one. For a population of 200,000 in Washington County, let's not forget University of Arkansas as well as JB Hunt and many more smaller businesses, that is a pretty diversified economy.

That area is doing great, but Tulsa is a larger city and fairly well diversified too. Better paying jobs available in Tulsa than NW Arkansas I am almost sure.

But NW Arkansas is one of the prettiest parts of this area of the US, and perhaps one of the prettiest parts of the USA period. It is a beautiful region with interesting natural features at every turn.
