My family will be moving to the muskogee area in june. Looking for a rental house or apartment...at least 2 bedroom. Does anyone know of any around that would be resonably priced?

Muskogee is very affordable. Do a google search for the yellow pages, then search for 'real estate'. Several of the real estate companies there deal in rentals also. The newspaper The Phoenix, has a website with the classifieds you can access. The less costly homes go fast though so call on the ones you're interested in asap! Good Luck!

Wickedwoman, have you moved to Muskogee yet? I'm thinking about moving there in September. Wondering how you like it.

Why not? It has a cute castle and a beautiful park full of azeleas every spring. And unlike a lot of towns it actually has a large enclosed shopping mall. If that isn't good enough, then Tulsa isn't very far away.

Allow me to shed some light on Muskogee. I'm 16 and have lived here my whole life. While most cities do exhibit an amount of crime, Muskogee is terrible for its size. A city of 40,000 should not have so much violence. Please, let me reiterate that I understand that all cities possess some level of crime, but in my experience, the amount of assault & murder that is so commonplace in Muskogee is unbelievable. Just last year, there was a shooting at Arrowhead mall. There are bomb threats at Muskogee High School and even Hilldale High School every year.

I personally transferred out of Muskogee Schools because of its rampant racial issues. It's very clear to anyone who attends the school that there's a distinct divide between the Mexicans, Blacks, and Whites. If you do not believe me or think I'm being unreasonable, then attend Muskogee High School for just one semester and see how bad the gang presence is.

Hilldale is better and the more luxurious neighborhoods of Muskogee lie in its school district, but clearly not everyone has the opportunity to live there. Let's take education out of the scenario, though.

Muskogee does have multiple shopping malls/centers (Shadowood Mall, Arrowhead Mall, Curt's Shopping Center, Lakewood Shopping Center, ect) and personally, the only shopping I go to Tulsa for is shoes and cloths. Muskogee does have an okay array of restaurants to choose from, such as Red Lobster, Chili's, and most recently, Buffalo Wild Wings.. but for fine dining, you'll have to take a trip to Broken Arrow or Tulsa. The good part is that Muskogee is only about 35 & 45 minutes away, respectively.

Muskogee is also quite cheap to live in, from what I've read about Tulsa county and the 405 area. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. Unless you live on the outskirts of town (for example, I live off of old highway 62, just by Taft), within Honor Heights near the VA hospital, or in a nicer neighborhood like Country Club or Phoenix Village, then you'll likely be exposed to the crime of the city.

Don't get me wrong; there're nice places to live off of York street and the like, but the general West side of town should be avoided as far as residential areas go.

Sorry if I might have offended other Muskogee natives, but most Muskogee citizens I have met tend to agree that it's less than favorable. If you have some tie(s) to Muskogee, such as your job or family, then Ft. Gibson is a great nearby town that grants the conveniences of Muskogee without having to be within the city.

And interesting how someone going by the name of wickedwoman99 wants to move where the crime rate is high. I'm so glad she didn't ask about Stillwater or Cushing.

Agree, Muskogee is really not very nice at all. It is a port city on the Arkansas and has quite a few manufacturing and industrial jobs, and is also a reason it is a lower/middle income city. It is very close to Tulsa though and you could live in Broken Arrow and get to the north part of Muskogee in 30 minutes. South Tulsa is about 40-45 min. away. If you want to live in the city you can find cheap places but they may not be in desirable areas.
