Petty's Fine Foods is a small specialty grocer in Utica Square. I like the store for the international products and meats.

Alright. After several visits to the Fresh Market, I am not going to go there again EVER unless absolutely needed.... here's why.

First of all, their meats are fine (tried NY strip for 12.99 and ribeye for 14.99), but really expensive, so it's no really a deal considering they are not Prime grade meats and not natural or organic (probably, they are unnatural inorganic meats...)

Problems:
1) Selection is rather bad there. No good fresh coffee, very few organic fruits, rather poor cheese selection, etc.
2) Price is rediculous sometimes. In my last visit, I just come from Sam's Club where I observed rasberries for $3.99 a box. In the Fresh Market THE EXACT SAME box was $8.99. This makes me really think twice before bying anything in the Fresh Market.
3) People who work there have some problems due to the apparent lack of professional training. A couple weeks ago, I was there with my family that included a crying 3-year old who was tiredin a late hour. Someone working in the store tried to be nice, said something good to the child etc. I replied apologetically, by saying that my child is tired. In response.... "I hear you. Me too." ...
Before that, there was a snobby guy explaining how good foods are in this store.
And yeterday, there was a girl at a counter who aked me if I have a card because she doesn't have change for my cash (it was $10 cash, not $100).

I should admit though one positive thing I found about the Fresh Market. They have Somen and Udon!!!

There rest ... it's nothing special.

Personally, I live in midtown Tulsa but shop for meat in Grove, OK because they age the meat themselves and I can be guaranteed that the meat is excellent compared to other butchers. If you really want the best quality meat you need to ask a local small farmer for product. Growing up we raised our own beef, pork, and chicken and had the beef and pork slaughtered in Arkansas. The ONLY way to guarantee good meat is to raise and have slaughtered. Barring that I would recommend the meat market in smaller locales since they tend to buy local and might age the meat themselves

Ever try feral hogs? Their meat is naturally lean and they eat pretty much anything that doesn't eat them back, lol. Delicious meat.

There is a new hormone & antibiotic free meat market in Tulsa now at 81st and Harvard. It's called Cimarron Meat and they offer grass fed beef also. The chickens are free range and they also have dairy straight from the farm. Check it out on FB at facebook.com/cimarronmeat.

I second Cimarron Meats, they are super friendly, I was very impressed with their costs and we have been over the moon happy with the quality of meat we have bought from them. The grass fed strips are AMAZING!!! They also recently had 5 lbs packages of ground beef for $3.49/lb, very comparable with Reasors. I think the strips we buy are about $12/lb. I'm thrilled they are in our neighborhood!

Thanks everyone for the wealth of info on where to get good meat in the Tulsa area.
I will checkout Cimarron next time I'm that area.

For the past year and a half, I've shopping mainly at 'Natural Grocers' (there are two stores in the Tulsa area: on Harvard Ave. near 31st street, and on 71st between Memorial and Mingo)
Their prices are pretty reasonable, and they seem to be very particular about the products they carry - especially the animal products (meats, dairy, etc.). Recently I have been buying Teton Waters Ranch beef, which I thinks is delicious. They also carry Mary's Chicken, and Jeremiah Cunningham's soy-free eggs. I'm very happy with their stores' prices and selection.

And I must say that I'm also very pleased to see that there are now many more natural grocery store options around town. Some better than others, but all of them way better than Reasor's and Walmart.
It's good to see Tulsans demanding better quality food.

Hoping to avoid the Azalea Festival crowds, I went to Walmart this morning for a few groceries. One thing on my list was to stop by the meat department. Reading the lively conversations here yesterday about the glories of certain types, made me hungry for my favorite style steak... a thin cut rib-eye and there they were on display perfect for the choosing. Yum yum yum...
