Sometimes, I think its almost a conspiracy, the way they've eliminated popular shows from the 80's and 90's from syndication. Funny how you can always find junk on tv, but its increasingly hard to find anything good.
Punky Brewster
McGyver
Hogan Family
Alf (haven't seen on tv in years!!!)
Silver Spoons
Muppet Babies (where is it?)
Knight Rider (david hasselhoff, 80's version)
Different Strokes (haven't seen in years)
Or even a show like Rescue 911 with William Shatner. Remember that? Those shows taught life lessons. The ratio of trash to life lesson tv is about 50 to 1 now.
I had forgotten some of the moral messages of those shows. Funny, how all that got replaced with the Kardashians. What happened to the old disney shows? Now, its all hannah montana.
-Another thing, I think modern commercials ruin the flow of old shows. Like drug ads, cialis? Who wants to see that. These jarring ads look out of place on old shows that had different values.
-Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack (on NBC) I haven't seen in years. I wish the full length hour long episodes would come on dvd.
-Old nicelodeon shows. Mr Wizards World. Hey Dude. Wild n Crazy Kids. Haven't seen those on tv in years.
-Old disney movies. What happened to classic disney movies or cartoons on the disney channel?
-Old shows from the 50's and 60's that taught good morals and were clean, like flipper. Nick at night has been replaced with modern sitcoms. Remember when Cherie got locked in a refridgerator on Punky Brewster? Those kinds of shows had an impact on the viewer.
"Flipper" is currently broadcast by the American Life (ALN) network, I believe. Some shows end up on relatively obscure cable networks because their broadcasting rights are more affordable than other sorts of programming.
"Muppet Babies" has run into all kinds of problems relating to music and film licensing. That show made regular use of clips from other films and TV shows, as well as a range of popular songs. Other shows have actually stripped out certain material from their DVD/syndication versions, but Muppet Babies used that kind of material to such an extent that doing this would be difficult.
This child of the 1980's misses Knots Landing the most. It was on SoapNet when they actually aired soaps (LOL) in the early 2000's, but I could not get SoapNet until after they stopped airing it. Since then, Warner Brothers has had the show locked up in their vaults. They released two seasons on DVD but there are no plans for the other twelve (!!) seasons. Dallas still shows up on some cable channels, but the vastly superior Knots Landing gets no respect.
The Andy Griffith Show is on TVLand a lot.
I too miss Mama's Family!!
Wish they would bring back Murphy Brown but got tired of waiting so bought several seasons from Amazon. Ditto for Coach and Designing Women as well as Becker.
Hallmark is once again showing The Waltons
I love The Wonder Years and the HUB network shows it each night as well as Doogie Howser,Happy Days and other oldies but goodies.
