Let me start by saying, I haven't had cable in over 2 years and just picked it back up due to some deal that TWC gave me. Maybe things have changed since I had cable previously.

I've recorded a couple of programs without issue. I wanted to record a part of the Democratic National Convention last night (let's keep politics out of this, but WHAT I was recording may be important to this thread).

So, I tried recording it off of CNN... and I got some error saying it can't record that. Hmmm... So then I tried...
MSN: can't record that.
FOX: can't record that.
PBS: can't record that.

Then I went to some random station showing something I didn't want to record and hit record. That worked just fine.

Has there been a change to what you can and cannot record on your DVR? I even tried recording without using the guide. I told it "record channel 1201 from 9:46pm to 11:01pm" thinking maybe it was some issue with the guide... nope, can't record that either.

Any ideas?

Your DVR may be broken? You may want to call your cable provider

Were you trying to record HD channels or regular channels? There is a limit on how many shows of HD/SD can be recorded and if you were already recording other things and an HD channel would not record but an SD channel would, then you merely didn't have enough available to do the HD.

I'd look into this. The DNC was filmed in HD and even a downrezzed signal will contain more information than the average SD signal.
