In them, we watch the cute little M&M's try desperately not to get eaten. In one, the M&M is madly grasping onto the end of the checkout counter, trying desperately not to go down the conveyor belt to his doom, but the smiling cashier grabs him and tosses him in a bag anyway...in the most recent, a girl at a party lures him unsuspectingly into a car to eat him. I know they are supposed to be funny, but I can't help but find them a little bit odd and disconcerting!
Yes! Most of them are about the M&M's trying not to get eaten. That's what they're for but when they make them cute and loveable, I don't want to see them yell and scream when someone tries to eat them.

Exactly! Only old folks like me will know this reference, but it reminds me of the little shoe who got "dipped" in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which was very upsetting!

I remember that too. That scene was criticized too by a lot of reviewers. It was pretty upsetting. Cute cartoon characters weren't supposed to meet that kind of fate.

I was scarred by that scene. I remember my mom trying to rationalize that it was just a shoe and not a real character to make me feel better but she was sad too. He had eyes and was scared and suffering the whole time. Yikes. Why did you bring that back up?
As far as the m&ms go here lately it has been mostly hot chicks wanting to eat the hapless guy candy. Which I guess gets a pass. If it was the green lady candy getting tormented by a bunch of frat boys or some fat slob on his couch it wouldnt be as...cute.
It is a commercial for imiginary candy characters.
What I find more disconcerting than the commercials is that people actually think the commercials are creepy and bothers them in real life. It is sort of like watching a soap opera then talking about those characters at work the next day like they are real people.

I agree, but as long as we're talking about M & Ms, I saw a grocery store ad for their new Pumpkin Spice flavor, that to me is more scary than the commercial.
I haven't seen the commercials, but I've never liked when, for instance, a barbecue joint will have as their mascot a cartoon pig with a napkin tied around his neck, and knife and fork in hand. Who came up with that little concept?
I guess that's why the Chik-fil-a cows have been around for so long.
