Of the TV series which I have seen, I can think of only two at the moment which in my opinion had both a good series opening show and a good series finale. Those were 'Frasier' and 'Eureka.'

Which shows in your opinion had both?

When I saw the thread title the first show I thought of was Frasier.

Not as good as the above, but also doing a good job of bookending the series was "Friends."

"Seinfeld" would be the opposite...an awkward start and a very disappointing finish, but great in between.

The reason I thought about this was because this morning, Lifetime, which shows 'Frasier' in the mornings had the series finale followed by the series opening, so I had the opportunity to compare them together.

Jeez.. You're going to have me thinking about this one..

Breaking Bad is the only one that I can think of.

The first episode was great, and the final episode may be the best I have ever seen.

Sopranos.. First was very good, last just sucked.

I don't think The Walking Dead will make this list, because it didn't hit its stride until about the 3rd episode.

eureka is one of those shows where half way thru they decided to go another route and hit the reset button. I liked the show overall and liked how they tied an event I'm the pilot to the finale

I think when its all said and done person of interest will be a show with an excellent beginning and end. so far a great pilot along with great mid and season finales

of course shows like lost and fringe despite some stumblings and course corrections along the way had great starts and finishes

I replied earlier but post disappeared into the ether

Mm... I don't know.. the last episode wasn't all that great.. it was the last 2 minutes that were the best.

M*A*S*H didn't have a great first episode. I can't think of what the first episode of Mary Tyler Moore was.. Good finale, though.

Of course.. This is all opinion.. And attitudes change over time.. I mean, when I first saw the first and last episodes of Star Trek:The Next Generation.. Well, at least the first.. I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Looking back, 25 someodd years later.. What a steaming pile that was.. lol

And, if you ask my sister.. The latest episode of Doctor Who is the best ever.

Ah.. Here's two.. Both BBC shows. Spaced and The IT Crowd. Both of them had terrific first and last episodes.. IT Crowd moreso, because Spaced didn't leave you with a feeling of completion.. It's like it needed one more season to tell the entire story. IT Crowd went out with an excellent final episode.

If you haven't seen the final episode of IT Crowd.. Called "The Last Byte"..

Six Feet Under came out strong and went out very strong, with the most satisfying ending ever.
