Never seen Father Knows Best and read that it was a big hit in the 1950's and I'm guessing that's why it was chosen by Antenna TV to air on Father's Day. I kind of wish it was Leave it to Beaver since it's a nice show to watch on sunday afternoon. I will sample Father Knows Best next sunday and see if I like watching the show. What show do you like better between the two?

Both were good shows. They didn't portray any of the characters as perfect with perfect families and perfect lives. There were good moral values that could be learned, while entertaining at the same time. Parents were not shown as idiots who couldn't tie their own shoes.

Leave it to Beaver. I always thought Ward Cleaver was the perfect father. Plus the Beaver was adorable and Eddie Haskell was deliciously evil.

It's funny that the fathers of the 50s and 60s were portrayed as wise and kind. Sometime in the 70s tv fathers began being portrayed as bumbling idiots. What happened?

Turn off the TV and take your dad out to dinner.

I think that Norman Lear felt it was time for a new type of comedy and wanted to do something that was the flipside of Ward Cleaver.

I think Leave It To Beaver is underrated from a comedic value sense. To me some of the content is still very hilarious and a little on the edge for its time I think. So I would vote that one only because I haven't seen too much of Father Knows Best.

I'd rather have a My Three Sons marathon on Father's Day really.

They're both pretty insipid. If you care to watch one or two to get an idea of what they were like, that's fine, but at the end of the marathon you'll be wishing you could get those hours back.

To enjoy the full experience of watching these old shows, you need to view them on a 17 inch black and white tv with rabbit ears.
