I think grouping every black contestant together for that one song came across that way to me. As though all should be lumped together on that basis alone. The show itself isn't racist, but that particular move to me felt weird like they were trying to be overly PC.
Jordan needs to be on Broadway. He also could easily be a singer of Christian music. I think the right one won, but Barrett should not even have been in the finals or on the show.
Barrett thought he auditioned for a show about building cars but never understood why they kept making him sing. Explains the confusion on his face when he sings.
I am glad to not be the only one who felt that way.
I think a better thing they could have done would have been to lump together all singers who were not chosen for the bring back and only sang that first Top 24 (23 since Ellie was gone) song. That would have been Braiden, Chance, Blaine, Keith Semple, Darius, and Celeste.
Either way... happy for Jordan as he seems like a pretty humble guy. My perfect world would have included Jeffery beating at least Barrett, but also Emily Ann. However, I think he will go on to have a great career somehow. The tone of his voice and his sense of putting emotion into songs will probably propel him. It reminds me a little bit of Sam Smith's emotional vulnerability with some Luther Vandross tone. Not sure what he will end up doing, though, but he is a super talented dude.
Oh and I guess Viktor would have been in the not-chosen for bring back section, too. Hard to believe he couldn't have also been cast as a soulful singer.
I'm OK with 1st and 2nd place. It's about what I figured, although I did have a secret fear that EmilyAnnCheerleeder would win because she is more marketable.
Oh, no wait - that's what American Idol does.
This is The Voice.
Proper winner

This. Barrett, Barrett, Barrett I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't understand how he got that far. Jeffrey is such a fantastic singer, but I think he put himself at a disadvantage because he rarely chose happy or upbeat songs. It isn't just about technical ability; the singer also has to entertain, and as talented as Jeffrey is, he could depress the audience with his songs about breakups and such. I think poor song choice did Shelby in as well.
Emily Ann is cute, but I don't see her having a lasting career. She's too old school and country has evolved a lot since the days of Dolly Parton. I'm not saying Dolly's music isn't great. It is wonderful, and I love her still, but I don't think Emily Ann is capable of pulling that genre off successfully. It was really neat having Dolly on the show. She is still such a kind, wonderful peron, not jaded and bitter like many longstanding stars are. My favorite performance of Emily Ann's was "Burning House," but ironically, we couldn't vote on that one. "9 to 5" was a fantastic performance as well. That is one difficult song and she pulled it off beautifully. But I'm surprised Blake didn't encourage her to do more contemporary music. It was really interesting hearing the country artists and how different the newer country sounds. It sounds more pop and rock to me than country from just five or ten years ago.

yes and for me that just underscores the sad state of music today overall. That guy who sang his song about break up in a small town?? And Coldplay?, Missy Eliot????
I'm not a country fan but the only performance I thought was good was Ricky Skaggs "Country Boy", that and Jordan and Usher were good as a vocal performance.
I'm like most of the others ...thought it should have been Jordan, Jeffery 1 and 2.
Jeffery to me has sealed his fate, not due to depressing music, but because a lot of people who vote are of the "traditional values" type. He never changed the genders of the song so when it was a female singing to a male, he was singing to a male. I think that bothered a lot of the "traditional values" folk. You don't think much about it when it is a straight guy that doesn't change it. I personally didn't mind as I am not that type, but I see how it is off-putting to the "traditional values" type. That is a sad statement to make in 2015, but it is what it is. Sure, Jordan's looks and voice are non-traditional, but he also has a girlfriend and went to a religious college.
Then, there are the people who also just don't like Gwen Stefani.
Part of what makes the show so fascinating is looking at how people vote on this show from an anthropological viewpoint. Jeffery and Jordan were both in leagues ahead of everyone else. Some weeks, Jordan would do better, others it felt like Jeffery was better. But anthropologically, Jordan always had the Christian vote in his back pocket.

And rap. I hated that guy who rap hopped around the stage and spoke half his lines. I was like WTH, this is country now?
Also hated the black guy whose name I thought was the name of the song. I guess it's a good thing I don't vote anymore because my tastes are so far off from the people who actually buy music, if these two are any indication.
