Great show. New York looks so grimy and seedy in this series.
That was the NYC of my youth and some of us prefer it in some respects to what the place has become today.
All those wonderful small ethnic parts of Manhattan and elsewhere that Kojak shows (Little Italy, Lower East Side, West Village, Brooklyn waterfront, etc..) have largely been gentrified and turned into areas filled with (poorly built) new residential skyscrapers filled with either mega-wealthy or Bros and Bro-Hoes.
At least back in the 1970's a working class person/family could still live in Manhattan, now unless you are on welfare or very well off that is nearly impossible.
Do you know what binge Decades will be doing next weekend?
No, but you can check their website.
Only knew about Kojak because was channel surfing Saturday and came upon an episode in progress. Since normally watch the show on MeTv (at 2AM) thought was in the "twilight zone" for a minute.

I have read that the people of New York preferred the "seedier" version when Times Square had porno shops and Disney had not arrived.

It was easier to navigate through Times Square before it became "Walt Disney World", and before anyone starts there are plenty of legit businesses above, below, east and west of the place so "decent" persons would have a legit reason for being there.
Now between the tourists, pedestrian plazas, traffic rerouting, etc.. many natives avoid the place all together if possible.
Tourists in particular get on our nerves because they stand around in groups blocking sidewalks to stare at buildings. I mean don't they have tall buildings in other parts of the USA or world?
On another note there were legitmaite businesses (again having nothing to do with sleaze) that have been pushed out of the Times Square area.
Also Kojak and his group slapped people around. They would whack suspects on the head. If a cop tried to do that today . . .
