I just got a Roku yesterday, after downgrading my cable pkg to just the starter tv, keeping the phone, and upgrading my internet speed to 30Mbps.Time Warner here doesn't even offer a pkg. with just internet and phone, like I wanted.

Will hook it up Monday after I pick up the new cable modem.

Will probably be subscribing to Sling TV for the sports for my adult son, and Netflix for us both.

What other channels are popular and where can I find discussions on streaming media on the tv/cutting the cable cord?

Also is there a way using an HDMI splitter to hook 2 TVs to the Roku and watch a different program on each? Of course we always used to be told that it was impossible to connect 2 TVs to one cable box, that you had to have a separate box for each TV. Everyone found out that wasn't true, if a splitter is used, and now Cable companies will even hook them up for you, lol!

I also have a Roku and subscribe to AcornTV for $5/month because I like the British/Aussie/Canadian programming that they feature, but YMMV.

They do offer a 30-day preview so you can check it out before you commit to spending money. I will say that some of the programming isn't brand new and some is available on other platforms, but there's enough variety for me that it's worth the $5.

Great to know. Does it have Lark Rise To Candleford, Rosemary & Thyme, and To The Manor Born? I saw those on DVD from my library, would love to watch them again.

Do you have basic cable or JUST the regular broadcast stations like ABC, NBC, etc.

(stations that are free if one has an antennae)

We switched years ago...don't miss cable at all. I use Netflix, Hula and basic broadcast tv mostly.
Sling tv would be perfect, if it worked like they said it would, but it has a lot of issues.
But if you have it, you can stream through ESPN (just sign up and list Sling as your provider)and they are better than Sling.

I have Time Warner and all I have is the internet and phone. Absolutely no cable at all. I have rabbit ears my local channels and a Roku for all else. I think they fed you some BS about having to subscribe to keep the internet and phone.
