The only characters I find distasteful in both Afterlife and Derek are the male perverts. The mailman in Afterlife (not so much) and Kev (I believe that is his screen name) in Derek. Especially the Kev character who has no redeemable (at least so far in my watching) value.
I don't mind Joe Wilkinson's character much (I mean come on, postman pat? that's golden!) but I do find him somewhat tiring on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown.
I hate, hate kev. that character (and the one he plays in "afterlife") in my mind, has no purpose other than to make you cringe and/or provide shock value. and while I like Gervais having a character like that seems right up his alley. it's like he can't be that repulsive himself so finds someone else to do it in place of him.
Which character was Kev in Afterlife? I don't remember (or connect) him.....
he was Kev in Derek, in afterlife he was Brian. he's the one with the greasy looking, dark brown hair and glasses. in the first season he was the guy with the creepy puppet show thing.
We just finished the second season of After Life. Having seen two seasons it's hard to say it's a comedy, but it is a really good show. Highly recommended.

I would not say it's a comedy, it has some comedic characters but it's all about grief
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the psychiatrist was completely over the top and nearly ruined the entire show. The wife and I have enjoyed these two seasons very much, but at some point there's going to have to be a breakthrough, because I'm not sure how long the public will want to watch a show where the protagonist is continually depressed (realistic as it may be).

No, I haven't.
I didn't like season 2. it was just sad and not funny at all...
