I don't follow the behind the scenes stuff and I got to wondering last night:
1. Why did Project Runway leave Bravo for Lifetime? It doesn't make sense. If it had to do with bad ratings then why is there a knock-off show (The Fashion Show) in its place?
2. I think most TV drama actors sign 3 year contracts so I wasn't surprised to see Chris Noth leave Law & Order: Criminal Intent but why did his character, Mike Logan, have 3 different partners in the short time he was on the show? If there's an official and an unofficial reason, I'd like to hear both.
I'm thinking this might be common knowledge to some of you and the answers don't deserve 2 separate threads.
The producers of the show decided to shop around and sell Project Runway to another network when the contract was up. Bravo felt they should have been given first right of refusal, as was outlined in the contract, so a lawsuit ensued. At the end of it all, Bravo settled with the producers of Project Runway and the show moved to Lifetime.
According to IMDB.com, both George Dzundza and Paul Sorvino left Law & Order because, at least in part, there wasn't enough range in their characters. If you watch the show, you can see that the detectives don't often get the chance to stretch themselves as actors. It's a good, well-paying, steady job -- but many actors want to do different things in their careers, and simply feel stifled by gigs like this.
Jerry Orbach, of course, stayed on after Chris Noth's departure and, as I recall, Noth didn't really leave "willingly." However, his IMDB page says he, too, became bored with playing the same role for five years.

I think you're talking about the original Law & Order, not L&O Criminal Intent. Only Noth was on L&O CI and he was added when Vincent D'Onofrio had his breakdown. I know Noth left to work on more creative jobs, but not sure why his coworkers left (and one came back to work with Jeff Goldblum). Also, I think I saw an advertisement for a new show that features Noth.
Okay, according to Wikipedia, Julianne Nicholson (Det. Wheeler) left for maternity leave and her absence was written into the script. There is no reason given for Annabella Sciorra's (Det. Carolyn Barek) absence, but she is now on Mental, so that may have played a part. There is no reason given for Alicia Witt's (Det. Nola Falacci) absence. It appears both Dets. Barek and Witt were supposed to be temporary fill-ins for Det. Wheeler until the real person could come back from maternity leave. Sort of what they did for Det. Eames when Kathryn Erbe had her baby.

You did, senalj, as did I but can't remember what the name or what it's about! Just saw Chris Noth.
Thanks for the info. I think Project Runway made a mistake, though. I guess we'll see with the ratings.
