Yup! The purpose of Sheldon is to generate humor through the reactions of all the other characters. How the others react to him is the best element of the show.

Arrogant, certainly! But how is Sheldon Cooper effeminate? Sheldon hates and eschews everything feminine. Raj and Leonard are more effeminate than Sheldon.

Here are a few of my most hated TV characters.

Priya on TBBT (know it all)
Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond (belittles others too much)
Jill on Home Improvement (sanctimonious)
Judith and Allen on Two and a Half Men (they deserve each other)
Marcy on Married with Children (sanctimonious, show-off)
Uncle Leo on Seinfeld (brags about adult son too much)

I loved Gregory House. He was emotionally conflicted in a very deep way. Hugh Laurie's music is really good too. I can highly recommend his albums.
