I didn't like that part. I feel she has been taught to give that as an answer and it was not genuine.

I also feel Fighting Gravity is much better suited for Vegas and a lot more entertaining as well.

The "Fighting Gravity is much better suited for Vegas" argument I hear folks make is really pretty irrelevant. Folks out there seem to think that the winner of the contest gets a long term contract for a Vegas show - and that's just not the case. What they get is ONE SHOW (a single performance). I'm not entirely sure if that is part of the month-long traveling show that all 10 top performers get to be a part of or if that's in addition, but I do know that it's NOT a long-term Vegas contract.

Now, having said that, it IS possible that IF that single show does well - which in truth it's likely to do for either Jackie OR Fighting Gravity (after all their exposure it will be pretty much a lock that either one would sell out that single show) THEN another slightly longer term contract could follow (not necessarily offered by the same resort) - and if THAT series of shows does well then an even longer contract could follow (again maybe with the same company, maybe with another) - BUT neither of those would be part of the contest prize. This is what happened in the case of Terry Fator - his success with those shows ended up helping him land a very good long-term contract, BUT that contract was NOT part of the AGT prize.

The fact is, Fighting Gravity - having built up a fan base with the exposure on AGT will likely get a contract with someone (either in Vegas or elsewhere) no matter WHO wins the AGT contest. In my opinion it would likely be in Vegas as they are indeed a perfect act for Vegas - but again, that would have NOTHING to do with who wins the AGT contest. It would merely come about because of all the exposure AGT has given them.

Likewise Jackie Evancho is pretty much guarenteed a huge career at this point no matter who wins the AGT contest. That career will probably not be a long-term contract in LV (I doubt her parents would want that) but rather a career of releasing albums and going on tour (probably all around the world as Paul Potts has done) from time to time.

So, the point is - the argument that "Fighting Gravity should win because they are much better suited for Vegas" is kind of a non-starter. The AGT prize is not just about Vegas, and Fighting Gravity will likely end up there no matter what - and Jackie will likely mostly perform elsewhere.

There is a LOT of misconception about the AGT prize - including the amount of the prize money. AGT always tells the audience it's a million dollars - but what they don't point out is that that million dollars is in the form of a 40 year annuity that would pay 25,000/year. In the case of Fighting Gravity (with - I think - 13 members) that works out to $1,923/year/member - or roughly $160/member/month.
Whoop Whoop.
It's NOT that big a prize really. the REAL prize of AGT is the EXPOSURE of being seen by 10-13 million people a week for as many weeks as they can remain in the contest. THAT exposure can lead to additional work and a shot at long term fame and success.

THAT is the REAL prize of the AGT contest, and at this stage all 10 remaining contestants have done pretty well in that regard - that's why even Debra Romer (who didn't even make the top ten) made the statement on the air that she's already getting offers to have her sing.

How far the contestants can go from here is up to them, but just being on the show for as long as they have has given EACH of the remaining contestants a much better shot at long-term success and stardom.

Ken

PS - regarding Jackie's "something with animals" response, no one can know if that was genuine or not, but it IS something a typical 10-year-old girl would say, so my guess is that it WAS genuine.

Even though they may not win the top prize on AGT, most of them will have offers to perform somewhere. One girl singer already mentioned on the show that she has had job offers and you know money hungry agents will be hovering all over these contestants that are reasonably good and will be promoting them all over. There are a lot of casinos and clubs looking for talents and various acts for starters.

Nitram -

Yup that's EXACTLY right. ALL of those top ten folks (and several of the other performers who didn't even make the top ten) will get a big career boost from this - and many (probably ALL actually) probably ALREADY have offers for follow-on work after AGT is over. As I wrote, it's not really the prize money that's the important thing - it's the exposure (and the name recognition that goes with that) that's the REAL prize for the AGT performers (whether they take the top position or not).

As the saying goes "there is no such thing as bad publicity". That statement may not be quite ENTIRELY true - but pretty much so. Publicity is the key to success in show business - and in that regard ALL of the top performers are ALREADY winners.

Ken

I thought Prince Poppycock was really smart to choose the theme he did. As with the Texas Tenors from last year he is guaranteed paid performances on the 4th of July for the rest of his life! I thought last night's show was awesome! My favorite five (in order) were: Michael Grimm, Jackie Evancho, Prince Poppycock, Fighting Gravity and Michael Grasso. It will be really hard to choose between them. I think Jackie has the best technical voice but opera just isn't my favorite style of music. I based my votes on who would I pay money to see and who did I think I would be willing to listen/watch for an hour or two if they had their own show.

I caught the show last night - my favs were Prince Poppycock, Jackie and the Fighting Gravity group. I missed the magic guy and the young dancers. Didn't like any of the solo male singers. The first act, the dance group was okay.

ETA - oh the blond sisters - not crazy abou them at all. They're supposed to be good? Why are they considered inspirational?

I missed Michael Grasso when he was first sent home (I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed the sleight of hand), but now I'm awfully sick of his girl in a box tricks. Last week's was so obvious it was embarassing, gee ya think she's in the huge base that they're wheeling to the back of the stage for no apparent reason?

Prince Poppycock is my favorite, followed by the wonderful Anna and Patryk. I don't think A&P have a chance though. Jackie Evancho is undeniably talented and will probably win, but I just don't care too much for opera music.

Prince Poppycock for some reason just delights me...and hubby likes him too. lol I'd like to see him win.

I thought young Jackie had a haunting, lyrical, angelic performance last night. My favorite, though I would likely never be inclined to pay to see her sing. To much opera just isn't my thing.

I really like the young dance troupe. They've got some amazing tricks and the most crisp moves of most that have been on the show.

I also liked the bike guy. He's sort of an underdog fighting to be recognized and did an amazing job last week after hurting himself pretty badly.

I'm guessing the magician is a much better illusionist in person than on TV because every single time I've seen him make the switch and anticipated exactly where he'll come out. So, he's not amazing to me.

I like Taylor better than Michael. He reminds me of younger Cas Haley from a couple of years ago on AGT.

I don't think Fighting Gravity was near as good last night as they've been before, so I was disappointed.

I don't like the singing sisters. They have a lovely story with their health issue, and the youngest does have a pretty solid voice considering...but they just don't work together for me.

The 12 yr old dancers are terrific, yet they have so many avenues to pursue their dream within the ballroom dancing world that it seems it would be better for them to compete there than on a general talent competition.

So, I'd like to see Prince Poppycock, the young dance troupe and Taylor hit the top 4. However I figure Jackie will land there for sure and Fighting Gravity as well as the magician have good chances too.
