I am resurrecting a 2010 thread, only to add this to an old discussion. I've only watched 2 episodes of MI 5 on BritBox (my latest obsession), but both shows were entertaining and not predictable - which is why I stopped watching many other US shows. Suspenseful, not a lot of blood and guts.
BUT THE FUN FACT THAT BROUGHT ME HERE - I may have to cross-post in a Succession thread. Matthew Macfadyen, who plays Tom in Succession, plays an MI5 operative - the complete opposite of bumbling Tom. He won a Golden Globe last night for the role in Succession and I see why. If anything, it's worth a look just to see his acting range.

I remember watching a season on MI-5 as it was called here on A&E and recall MacFadyen. I thought he was great in Quiz, an ITV series based on the "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" coughing scandal.

MI-5 is available on Hulu.
This show keeps getting better and better (and I am only 6 in)...........some more names to bring up from the cast, there are 9 seasons, enough to keep me busy while recording network shows so I can binge w/out commercials.
Hugh Lurie - Plays a spy from a sister agency. Has much of the House character with a delicious mean streak.
David Oyelowo - my word, does he look young. Currently in Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Want to shoot myself in the foot, I just looked up his spelling and can now tell you the year he leaves the series.
That's one thing I like about this show, so far, it has not been "happily ever after" with clean endings. No one is spared. Just finished S1E6 and it's taking willpower to not log onto my account so I can see what happens next. The show is from 2002, so some of the tech stuff is dated, but not so much it ruins the show.
There's nothing like a show you can't wait to get back to. Anyone that was a fan of the Jack Ryan series, this could be a good filler. It does center on the most part on Brit politics, which doesn't differ much from US politics........and American politicians and presidents are at risk ini this show, as well..
OMG, years ago I bought 5,6 Seasons on DVD of MI-5 ---called Spooks in the UK.
This is where Matthew met and married Keeley Hawkes - you might know her in Bodyguard, not The Bodyguard with Whitney.
Oh, the actors when they were younger in this series!!!! Nicola Walker fans will love it.
Loved MI-5/Spooks. Looked at 'The Last Kingdom' yesterday and couldn't figure out where I'd seen Matthew Macfadyen before... but finally decided it must've been MI-5.
I loved this series until it became very anti-American (sorry to spoil it for you, OP). No one is immune to being "whacked" including the lead characters. Even when it first aired in the US, the politics seemed dated, being broadcast the UK a few years earlier. However the writing is wonderful, especially with all of the twists and turns to create suspense. It is a who's who in terms of British actors. More recognizable faces to come as you continue through the series.

LOL, no worries here, there are parts of our history where I am anti-American.
I am so happy I have 10 years of viewing to get through. I watch a show before work and another after. Weekends may get me a bonus show each day........but looks like this will keep me busy for weeks!
Any comments on MI6? (LOL, that feels like all the NCIS spin-offs. I used to love NCIS and now can barely tolerate it).
