Is that a watertower in the first pic? It doesn't look good as being part of the skyline.

I heard that the old Smith County Courthouse was beautiful. Anybody have a picture of that before the 60's monstrosity replaced it?

Now that Tyler has just barely gotten over the 100,000 hump and since it is an up and comer it will be compared to other cities that have been over 100,000 for decades. Might get more favorable votes if this poll was conducted in the '90s.

I also agree that the 'new' courthouse is quite ugly. On top of that, I have memories of bad moments there. As far as the appearance goes, my wife says it is becuase it was built in the '60s. Something about the style of that decade.....

I wondered about that too. Who looks at Tyler's skyline and says "wow! That's amazing!"?

But, rooting for the hometown, yeah I can see that.

The city population of Tyler may have just reached 100k, but its metropolitan areas has pretty much always been similar to that of the other mid-sized cities in Texas.

I'd say Midland is amazing for a city its size.

Bingo!

Tyler has had this same downtown skyline since we were just a small country East Texas town of less than 60,000 people back in the early 1980's.

We've had a few tall buildings in our skyline since the 1930's actually. One still standing today, our second tallest the People's National Bank building aka Tyler Town Center the building with vertical black glass running up the front & sides is over 200 feet tall & back in the 50's was toped with a very unique metal structure that lit up in red & green neon at night which rotated & flashed. It could be seen for miles away.

Beaumont? Seriously?

Beaumont's metro at 378,000 is almost twice the size of Tyler's at 208,000 & its skyline is WEAK in comparison. Sure its got a pretty cool historic hotel in its downtown, but thats the only thing I like about it.

Waco's Alico building is their pride & joy & about as tall as Tyler's tallest.
