Course, Im sure the town goonies are hiding somewhere in Whitehouse or Chandler waiting to hunt em down and string em up.. Not like anybody in Tyler has jobs to go to in the morning or anything.
True. In Waco I went to school with transsexuals and homosexuals and nobody treated them any differently. Some won class favorites, student council, and more.

Precisely. I dont know if people think we're making this stuff up or what, but there seems to be a common strain of willful ignorance from people who either never lived in Smaller/Medium sized Texas towns, or who have never lived anywhere with a TRUE religiously conservative culture. Texas' religious/social conservatism PALES in comparison to some parts of The Upper South and the Midwest. Texans are money makers, not so much proselytizers. So politically, Texas will have a culture that reflects profiteering and businessmen. But as far as having a stifling/oppressive religious culture? Pshh. Try living in the rural midwest or rural TN/KY/VA for a minute and see how East Texas compares. Put it like this: Not that strip clubs make a city uber progressive -- but there are towns the size of Tyler and Waco that dont have ONE nightclub, let alone several strip clubs like Tyler has...Ive lived in those places.

If you think Longview is a small town, then you've never been there, or at least not in the last 100 years. Longview is almost the largest city in East Texas.

Keyword: almost

Longview is a good 20,000 people smaller than Tyler though the two metros are very similar in size.

Lonview's MSA takes up 2 or 3 counties while Tyler's is just 1, Smith County.

Tyler has exploded in the last 20 years, mostly because of college students and retirees. But so what? I grew up in a small town and Longview is very far from that.

No Longview is not a small town. It hasnt been since I was a kid. Its a medium sized town with a few nice amenities. I remember, as a child, Longview was our trip to the "city" during the time we were living in Marshall. Dare I say, as a Tylerite, I always thought their mall was a little better than ours.

lmao@never been to longview

I'm a class of 02 Longview Lobo. I'm from the east side right in between MLK and Mobberly ave. and 12th street is in the middle. Smack in the middle of the hood. Right across from Timpson where you have them he/she hookers that trick jons. Longview is the 2nd largest city in East Texas and when I stated small town I didn't mean on the level of a Tatum,Henderson,Carthage, Gilmer,Gladewater. But correction Longview is a small city. Wouldn't really call it a mid size city. Waco would be a mid size city. Longview is not too far behind from Waco. But it still would be a small city. If you're from other areas in East Texas I guess Longview would be a mid size city. But go outside of East Texas and no it wouldn't be a mid size city. It's big enough to be consider a real city but I wouldn't consider it mid size. Corpus Christi would be mid size. even mega suburbs in Dallas would be consider mid size cities over Longview and Longview feels more like a real city to me then those burbs

Longview today is like what Tyler was 10 years ago. They were always a little behind the times over there.

JK...I love Johnny Cases as its one of my favorite places to eat Cajun food! Many famous people have eaten there. Its a staple in East Texas.

We used to have a Cases seafood here in Tyler that was ran by one of sons. It was there for years & closed up about 11 years ago. A Mexican joint remodeled the place & moved in.

Okay, I can agree with small city. It's just that I'm originally from Beckville, so it's insulting when someone calls a city like Longview "a small town". What would that make my small hometown? But I understand if you just mixed up the words town and city.
