‘RouteShout’ phone app allows residents to view bus information

The Tyler Transit Department has launched RouteShout, a free smart phone app that allows riders to view current bus routes and arrival times for Tyler Transit, according to a press release from the city. The free app can be downloaded from RouteShout.

“By adding this technology we can provide an alternative source of updated and accurate information to our customers,” James Oliver, transportation operations coordinator, said in the press release. “RouteShout is an easy-to-use mobile app that can assist customers in their efforts to utilize Tyler Transit. Tyler is the only city in Texas using the RouteShout technology.”

Residents should still arrive at their bus stop at least five minutes before the estimated arrival time and check the next bus arrivals more than once to make sure the vehicle isn’t running faster or slower than when it was last checked, the press release stated.

Effective April 1, Tyler Transit has renamed the Red 1A Route to the No. 5 Purple Route to lessen confusion regarding the Red Routes that travel north and south on Broadway Avenue and through the Medical District.

The No. 5 Purple Route will still travel through the Medical District on Beckham Avenue. It also will keep the same bus stops and bus stop times, according to the press release. The only change will be the number and color of the route.

For additional information or questions regarding this route or any other bus route within the Tyler Transit System, please contact Tyler Transit at 903-533-8057 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
