I wonder when they are going to rename TJC and take out the Junior. That will be an adjustment.

Yes, I for one among many who want to keep the name as is. In the 1960's Junior College was so well respected across the country that if you told the counselors at TJC WHICH four year college you were going to transfer to, they would check the catalogs call the colleges and confirm your courses were very likely to be accepted by that college.

Part two, of course if you changed schools you were transferring to, a course or two might not transfer, because the second college might require another course. Back in the 60's TJC the school was considering becoming a four year college. The college decided not to become a four year school because it would take decades to become a well known respected four year school. Maybe that was a mistake. U.T. Tyler became established in the area.

Part three, 20 plus years ago, the state allowed schools that had always called themselves a college, to call themselves a university. That freed up the college name, and Kilgore and most of the JUNIOR colleges jumped on the chance to call themselves a COLLEGE. I suppose, IMHO, that most of the junior colleges thought the prestige of calling themselves a college, would likely recruit more students. Some students would find Kilgore and other junior colleges listed under colleges, by that alone, could possibly entice a student that would otherwise never consider a junior college to now consider Kilgore College. I have not explained this well, but I hope some can see this as a possibility.

Back the 20 plus years ago, as noted, Tyler considered the name change. Yes, today, TJC needs to change the name because of the four year degrees now being offered. For certain, Tyler Community College, is the name not being considered, IMHO, for many reasons that would be a step backwards for TJC. I don't like the name Tyler College either, Tyler can't use the name university, and Tyler Junior/Senior College looks awkward. Anybody have a better name? Please, serious responses only. lol

It's really a challenge. I wish I could say I had a better option for a name but, errrrr, I don't! So I'll just sit back and watch the show!

I hope Longview has the same supplier. I will ask my friend who works in Longview to bring me one from time to time, yeah, they are tasty to me, IMHO.

Maybe, another "good" cafeteria will now come to Tyler.
