If you have been following the latest news story it is a Black Dallas politician (Caraway) who is gathering support (lots of it too) from the community & is advocating for Black owned businesess to post signs declining service to people who sag pants below their ass. So far it seems to be catching on.

Fort Worth wanted to pass a similar law a couple of years or so ago banning sagging pants on city buses.

Yeah...Tyler is so backwards we have to pass laws against idiots who don't buy the proper size pants while prohibiting freedom of expression.

We don't have people spray painting hate messages on gays & lesbians cars parked in their driveways either here in Tyler. The attitude towards that type of stuff around here is basically everybody minds their own business. Don't even say it was an isolated incident in Arlington either when just a few years ago the feds raided a gay bar over in Fort Worth & man handled (no pun intended) every gay person in there.

I'm sure we all understand that, Matt. But there's still quite a significant difference in the culture and politics of the two areas. Cherry-picking isolated incidents and random ordinances doesn't change that fact.

All of that has very little to do with the highly conservative atmosphere of Tyler.

I wasn't even commenting on that; I was speaking about you talking about saggy pants on blacks.

You do know that **** happens everywhere, correct? It happened in Atlanta not to long ago, its happend in Houston, it has happened in LA, etc.

Youre trying to act like Tyler is more live and let live than DFW when anyone with a brain would know better, but whatever makes you sleep at night. DFW is not a bastian of liberalism outside of Dallas county and some areas of Fort Worth, but comparing it to Tyler is dumb.

Besides I would think that a self-professed disciple of Glen Beck would be pleased with Tyler being a conservative place. Comparing DFW or anywhere there to Tyler is apples and oranges. Tyler is more coservative than anywhere in DFW minus maybe of handful of burbs. Im not saying thats a bad thing, just the way it is.

To answer the topic, no I would not live in Tyler. I dont hate it, its just too small.

Yes, Tyler is a fairly conservative town, but people here don't judge you as much as some may think & they sure don't force you into their church.

If we were that conservative then we wouldn't have an active gay & lesbian community like this one otherwise known as T.A.G.

Home - Tyler Area Gays is East Texas's Largest GLBT

Most of the gays & lesbians live in the Azalea District inside the loop & around the 3 colleges.

I NEVER compared Tyler's tolerance to D/FW's, I was simply throwing out two recent incidents where gays & lesbians were discriminated against up there.

What is small to you?

>1,000,000?
>500,000?
>275,000? (Tyler)

I never once said people force you into church. I know some on CD equate conservative with racist or bigoted, I dont. Tyler is conservative and there isnt a thing wrong with that. Even as I liberal I prefer living in more conservative areas. But thats something I like about Texas. Regardless of stereotypes, Ive never once felt unwelcome in those areas even with an Obama and a Tolerance sticker on my car. I like living in Plano more than I did Dallas, I liked living in the suburbs of LA better than LA, and if I ever moved to Houston I would have little interest in living inside 610. On top of that, you seem to get most of the diversity in many of the suburbs anyway. My area of North Plano is much more multicultural than Uptown Dallas just as Sugar Land is more multicultural than Midtown Houston.

When I say too small, I mean that I prefer living in suburbs outside major metro areas (meaning top 10-12 metros in the US). A big part of that is that I like the diversity on a mass scale that you get in most of those areas as well as the culinary options, but the bigger reality is that I work for the airlines as a contract negotiator. I need a large base of international companies and a huge international airport to get me to the places I need. Because of that, Im limited to NYC, LA, Chicago, Bay Area, DC, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Philly, or Miami. I wouldnt even be able to do my job in Denver, Phoenix, or Charlotte.

Ive spent lots of time in Tyler and for a city its size, Im well aware it has good offerings. I have to admit Im not crazy about Longview tho. Other mid-sized Texas cities I think offer a lot for their size would be Waco, McAllen, and Lubbock.

By me saying I wouldnt live in Tyler, its not a knock. Im just a mega-metro suburbs kind of guy.
