A few friends and I would like to visit PR for a vacation around the middle of Feb.
It be nice to gather a few thoughts on where to stay and what to do.
I think we'd prefer to stay in San Juan, and aren't looking for anything spectacular or out of the ordinary. We are in our late twenties early 30s, some nightlife, a casino?, and some kind of beach or adventure/hike would be a good idea.
thoughts?
I haven't the slightest clue aside from net research so any help will do.

February is a good time to travel. The weather is not too hot and it doesn't rain too much. In San Juan you'll find the nightlife, casinos, and beaches. 35 minutes to the East you have El Yunque tropical rain forest, a US Federal Forest Reserve ( httP://fs.usda.gov/elyunque). To the West, about an hour away, you have the Camuy Caverns ( Parque de las Cavernas del RÃo Camuy | Video Guide | Camuy, Puerto Rico - EyeTour.com) and nearby you'll find the Arecibo Observatory, the world's largest radiotelescope. I think taking a kayak on the bio bay in Fajardo is another must do. Also, try to go to one of the smaller islands off PR such as Culebra (you can stay there) or even Caja de Muertos.

I travel to PR about 3 or 4 times a year for business. I'm actually departing next Monday for another week. Among my favorite experiences have been El Yunque, the rain forest; La Placita, the street party with dozens of small bars to walk throughout (very welcoming to polite outsiders and my Spanish is probably at a 9th grade level, LOL) but my absolute favorite thing was my trip to the Caribbean side and a day spent at La Parguera. It took a couple of hours to drive there from SJ but we rented a little skiff boat and went out to crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and hung out among the mangroves, floated on our life vests, ate chicken and drank beer. You can see pictures and read more about that on my blog. Here's a link to that chapter:

I've not yet made it to Culebra but have heard great things about it.

Great time to visit; not HURRICANE season! ahaha
Definitely go to:
Las Pagueras (SW part of the Island in Lajas); it is absolutely breath-taking (day or night)! If you go rent a boat and/or take the tour they give and get off one of the lil' islands for an hour or so. If you go after the sun sets you'll be able to view the Phosphorescent Bay glow with the millions of microscopic organisms known as dinoflagellates that sparkle when disturbed. This phenomenon occurs only in the tropics, typically in mangrove-protected bays like this one.
While you're on the SW part of the Island; go to Guanica, Boquerron (beach in the town of Cabo Rojo), Combate
Puerto Rico Beaches - Cabo Rojo. La Playuela, Playa Sucia, Buye, Boqueron, Comba
Ponce is also a cool town to visit; Ponce, Puerto Rico
I also think the Arecibo Observatory is pretty neat:
arecibo observatory - Google Search
El Yunque in Fajardo is for nature-lovers! Wear sneakers/no FLIP-FLIPS! lol
El Yunque rain forest in Puerto Rico/animals/plants/puerto rican parrot picture
For partying; Isla Verde, El Condado (all in San Juan).
ENJOY!!!
