Hello eveyrone,

I have been reading through the forums but I would like to hear opinions on my particular case.

Our case:
- Moving to PR due to work (pregnant wife and me).
- I'm fluent in Spanish (I'm Colombian), wife is learning.
- Work is at Santa Isabel in the south coast (NOT Isabela).

Housing options?
- Budget is ~$1000/month for rent
- Important to have an excellent hospital close by for the birth of our child.
- Hopefully an upscale location, with good access to entertainment and cultural venues.
- We love the beach but don't have to live at a beach front place necessarily.
- Are there nice neighborhoods in Ponce?

Other:
- Maids? Is it fairly common/possible to have a maid, how much do they charge per month? this is mostly thinking on extra help when our child is born.

Many thanks!

I worked in Santa Isabel several years ago. Who are you going to work for?

Housing is probably doable. Don't know of anything upscale unless things have changed.
Culture and entertainment will most likely be in Ponce.
Hospital, not so much, Ponce is more like it.
There are some fairly nice neighborhoods in Ponce.

Though 1K budget could be doable, I'm so sure about upscaling or many ammenities. Like the previous poster typed, Ponce is a better bet for those.

As for maids, in my opinion, they are not that common here in PR. I know there are maid services that clean up the house and such, but a full time maid is rare.

As high as the unemployment rate is in PR I can't imagine it will be difficult to find a maid. A google search for maids finds numerous hits.

As far as I know , getting a full time maid anywhere in PR is something very difficult. Getting a cleaning lady for a few hours is doable.
