I do understand that Vieques is becoming quite popular with tourists...so yes, Vieques is a good place for a vacation, even for couples. I say this because only 10,000 people live on Vieques and despite the recent growth of tourism, you can find some beaches that will still be mostly to yourself. In fact, the beaches are wonderful and often ranked as some of the best in the Caribbean. The US Naval occupation of the western and eastern parts of the island is over, has been for eight years. Those areas that were bombed by the US Navy were cleaned up and are now actually part of a national wildlife refuge. So again, I would say yes!!! Vieques is a great place to go with your significant other.
Oh yeah, the weather. The rainiest season is in may and the Fall according to wikipedia. I do not think that you will have too many problems with that. Otherwise, it will be sunny and very hot, like everywhere else in the Caribbean.

The island of Vieques is a nice spot for vacationing couples, especially if you want to relax. The weather is the best at that time of the year, which is high season. Is the tropics, so you will have the occasional rain, but it is not the rain season at that time of the year. More on Vieques: Puerto Rico Is The Place: Vieques, Puerto Rico

We visited Vieques last Jan28-Feb 5. It was a great vacation and I can't wait to go back. It takes a little planning to get there, and it is VERY IMPORTANT to rent a car as soon as possible, since there aren't enough rental cars to go around. The weather was beautiful most days. Only short, sporadic rainshowers on a few days.
What you will find: 2 small quaint towns, one slightly more touristy than the other. Lots of wild horses, loose dogs, roosters and iguanas. Awesome natural beaches, some of which require a 4-wheel drive to get to. A few small bars, restaurants and shops. Snorkeling, horseback riding, scooters. Coconuts, mangoes, limes and jungle. A wonderful Bioluminescent Bay. Great street food.
What you will NOT find: Loud, large nightclubs. Crowds. Beaches with parasailing, jetskis, side-by-side lounge chairs that are "saved" by towels, mega-cruise ships dropping off 4000 people to flood the restauants and shops.
Vieques is a place to slow down, chill out and embrace the island lifestyle. Some people may call it boring, I call it heaven.

If you like horseback riding, be sure to book a trip with Esperanza Riding Company. They take you through the jungle, down the beach and through the center of town on Paso Fino horses, which is what the wild horses are. Great ride! Also, don't miss the biobay, either on the pontoon boat or in kayaks. Not sure what phase the moon will be in when you are there, I don't think they do tours if it is full because you can't see the glowing lights in the water.

Wow--can't believe I have something I can add to the PR forum! Vieques is great. We too visited a couple of years ago. I thought it was fantastic. Check out Hix Island House if you want truly unique accommodations and a real jungle experience. Also, the bioluminescent bay is in Vieques--and it is an experience not to be missed!

No, the only way to get to Vieques is by taking the Lancha (passenger ferry) which I believe leaves from Fajardo or a small "island hopper" plane from several different companies. Most fly over from San Juan or Ceiba, I think. San Juan is more convienient, but more expensive. Ceiba requires a fairly long taxi ride from San Juan but in the long run is cheaper. There is also a company that uses a seaplane. The ferry is cheapest, but unreliable if the sea is rough or there is mechanical trouble.
