I am moving to Puerto Rico in a few weeks, and wanted to know if anyone has experience with changing their credit card address to a PR address.
While PR is part of the US, and the banks there are FDIC and Federal Reserve regulated, I know some cards treat PR as a foreign country, for example for transaction fees.
I would like to change my address for Chase/Citi/Capital One/etc... credit cards to my PR address, but not if it will cause my cards to be closed or adversely affect my credit.
If that is the case then I'll use a virtual mailbox service like Earth Class Mail or Virtual Post Mail.
You should not have a problem with major Credit Cards (Amex, Visa, MasterCard) however store cards such as Sears, JC Penney have different rules. In my case I had a Sears card with a $10,000 credit limit that was reduced to $2,000 just for moving to Puerto Rico. The irony is that I was a student in the US mainland and moved to Puerto Rico to work and my income went up 5 fold but my store card credit limits went the other way. Check with the institutions what their rules are, or check if you can manage your account(s) online without changing the mailing address.
