I knew it was not going to take long before crime in PR would finally hit the celebrities world.

There have been different incidents lately, like one lady who used to a public figure for children in the late '80's and early '90's who was assaulted and strip from jewelry, and several public figures have also been assaulted or robbed.

But yesterday one (although it is still not officially) was finally killed in a car-to-car shooting, boxing ex-champion Hector "El Macho" Camacho.

The man who has been attempted against his life before finally met his demise at the hands of hired assassins apparently the ex-boxer was not really a "saint" as we say it in Puerto Rico.

The chances for survival are minimal, almost negligible. According to the director of this institution where the ex-boxer lies in a deep coma, several indications tell he may have brain death, but signals are still not flat, so they are waiting for that to happen to certify his brain, and therefore, legal death to proceed to possible organ donation.

From what I read, it seems he was dealing drugs too. I wouldn't be surprised, a couple of years back he posed naked for a gay magazine. Unfortunately he was passed his best and the pics (although published) didn't help him kick start his career much

That the crime is drug related; he was hard up for cash and probably dealing drugs. His other ventures (i.e. porn) didn't pay off

My hometown (Carolina) had a murder rate of 67 in 2010. That's half the official murder rate of Ciudad Juárez and 20 higher than Detroit. What the press is not talking about and no one is admitting is that Puerto Rico is almost as dangerous as northern Mexico. The big difference between Mexico and Puerto Rico is that no one is tossing grenades at each other in PR

Whether heathen or saint, villain or hero, the legacy of Hector "Macho" Camacho is now permanently inscribed in the unerasable pages of time and history. And each of us will recall him in whichever form we choose. Without denying his obvious defects, I choose to remember his happy and jovial nature, and his outstanding boxing record: 79 Wins (45 by KO) - 6 Defeats - 3 Draws.

There was enough color and drama in his life for a Hollywood movie at par with Raging Bull.

You will now rest in peace, Champ!

(Hector Luis Camacho: May 24, 1962 - November 22, 2012)

Drug dealers (and possibly drug USERS) should not be glamorized or glorified by society. However, it seems that most of us are (at times) inclined to look the other way when the person in question had (or has) an above average talent which overshadows their inherent weakness for substance abuse, be it illegal drugs or alcohol.

We can easily mention the names of countless artists and athletes who've succombed to substance abuse: Janice Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Daryl Strawberry (still alive), John Belucci, Whitney Houston, Ricky Hatton (still alive), and on, and on. . .

In recalling the above names, most of us tend to remember the things these people were able to do with their voices, their guitars, their baseball bats, their comedic nature, their fists. We celebrate their talents, not their addictions. Precisely for this reason, I choose to celebrate and remember Hector "Macho" Camacho's boxing talents and accomplishments.

RIP

The man was a thug and a drug dealer. Don't let his talent in the ring overshadow that. I say good riddance.
