Why would anyone consider moving to a place where now criminals haunt and assault you in the middle of a freeway in the middle of the day...???

You should visit first. Stay for a few weeks/months if you can and get a "feel" for the place.

Why are you attracted to PR? Just curious.

It's something different. It's unexpected and not a place people would normally move to for a fresh start especially for someone who moving out on their own for the first time.

Yes they did, but this is a different time where people have access to a lot of information online to help make a decision like that. He could apply for jobs before he even goes if he wants, he can find out what is available and the cost for renting, he can see photos of what things look like, he can begin to learn spanish, in other words, there is really no excuse to going to a country like that with no job, little money, no place to live, no job, and no car.

I guess he has the free will to do whatever he wants. I have warned you all already of what a mess Puerto Rico is right now. But even when innocent people are murdered in an almost daily basis in the island of enfrightenment, some people including fellow Puerto Ricans insist on returning. It is crazy to move to Puerto Rico right now. San Juan is flooded in crime and the rest of Puerto Rico has almost no jobs and the quality of life is much less than what you would find in the mainland. But... It's the OP's choice to enter the battlefield or to stay away from danger.

If you haven't already gathered from the responses on this thread so far, moving to a new place with which you're totally unfamiliar, which has a totally different culture from that which you're accustomed to, where you don't speak the local language and with no job, no money and nobody to go to for assistance is a recipe for total disaster. If you've never lived on your own then this is something to accomplish first in a familiar area not somewhere miles away from everything you know.

There are people who make this sort of move who have jobs lined up, who have money in the bank and who have years of experience living on their own who leave within a couple of months when the reality of island living sinks in!

I would not worry too much about NEW in Puerto Rico since the culture is excellent and there is a hell of lot to do in the island because in spite of its size, PR has almost everything to offer both tourists and residents- nightlife for the extroverted, peaceful areas in the mountains, blue beaches, oceanfront and inland caves, cliffs, desert... It is larger than Hawaii. But Puerto Rico also offers a lot of assault, drugs, burglary, arson, theft, carjackings, political favors and an unjustifiable low quality of life; extremely low salary and a high cost of life.

Not even considering the fact that you have not done any research h about the island, and that you are planning to move somewhere where you have NO mob, NO place go stay, NO Spanish speaking skills.
Not even considering all of that, consider that you are BLACK female. No one wants to mention this.

I have lived on a neighboring island, I know the culture. Figure it out.
Good luck to yoh
