Being on a very limited income, where would the wiser area of the island be to have a better COL and still b fairly safe?

Also how is the HIV dr.'s and aside from San Juan, where is the more respected hospitals, dr.'s be to deal with that?

My partner and I make 1850 a month, where would that LIMITED income get us the biggest bang for the buck and still have a good standard of living in a relatively decent apartment near the beach?

You make $1850/month combined? Even double that won't get you very far at all even living a simple and frugal lifestyle. Bear in mind that public transportation isn't an option for day to day living and particularly when your income will dictate that you live outside the "main hub" and you need to be in reach of a good medical facility. Vehicle expenses can run very high in this part of the world between the poor roads and the salt air corrosion. I would advise anyone thinking of retiring to the Caribbean to rethink and think again before even thinking about it!

I just got back from Isabella/Condado yesterday. Some staff at a old san juan bar told me they live in Arecibo for 450 a month rent. That's a 1 br apt. Your a hour outside of San Juan?? The further away your from high end areas like Condado or Ocean Park, the cheaper I would say.

You should also note that residents of Puerto Rico cannot receive Supplementary Security Income (SSI) due to it's colonial status, in addition due to the same colonial status it only receives a fraction of the Medicare & Medicaid that the states of the Union receive.

Puerto Rico is hemorrhaging doctors and other medical professionals.
