There is an effort underway in Congress to grant the 65th Infantry Regiment the Congressional Gold Medal:
Borinqueneers Congressional Gold Medal Alliance is a grass-roots national, non-partisan, all-volunteer group of individuals & organizations dedicated to obtaining the well-merited Congressional Gold Medal for the largest, longest-standing, & only active-duty segregated Latino military unit in US history, the 65th Infantry Regiment Borinqueneers! 65th Infantry Regiment Congressional Gold Medal, Puerto Rico
I support this 100%. It was recently announced that Ted Cruz will sponsor a Senate bill for the medal making it more likely that this will become law ... a well deserved and belated honor in my view.
Many people forget that Puerto Rico has a much higher rate of military service than many states with much larger populations. Say what you want about the poverty, the Spanish language, etc but Puerto Ricans have never shunned from answering the call of duty.

And that is why, IMO, we have more than earned the right to speak whatever language we want, screw the English Nativists. I wonder who voted no? Probably a Nativist, a racist, or both

My guess is the same. Ive encountered some racist/nativist types who think that Puerto Rico is part of Mexico

I did not read anything about language in the article........
