Yes, end colonialism. It has no place in the modern world. It's inherently wrong. Let Puerto Rico be independent already.

Puerto Rico doesn't want to be independent. You keep missing the memo for the past 50 years. Why you keep pushing for independence when you don't live on the island is beyond me. Are you even Puerto Rican? Do you have any roots in P.R.?......Just wondering......
They want to keep their American Citizenship and travel and live in any part of the 50 states and its territories for jobs, college or retirement with all the benefits and protection without a green card or asking permission to come to the USA as a visitor 6 to 12 months in advance with no benefits.
Puerto Ricans might be lots of things but We aren't fools...We see how the Mexicans, Dominicans, Venezuelans., Guatamantecos and the rest of the Latinos are struggling in their countries and the things they do to get in the USA. Why would we want to be in their shoes?
if you are doing well in Puerto Rico you stay but if you are not then you have 50 states to choose from for jobs, school or retirement in a nation with the best GDP in the world. Why would a Puerto Rican would take out that option for him/her and their family? for independence and a useless symbolic patriotism that is not going to put food on the table and bring jobs?

I don't think you understand how a nation works. You see, it's not just about you and your wallet. It's about all of us collectively. How we can help each other and build a better society.
Also, the US never intended for Puerto Rico to become independent. Conversely, we always intended for the Philippines to become independent. That's why Puerto Ricans gpt US citizenship and Filipinos didn't. That's why US policy towards the Philippines under US rule always trended towards paving the way for independence. US policy regarding Puerto Rico has always trended towards ever increasing integration with the mainland.
1917 - US citizenship
1947 - elected governor
1952 - state-like local government albeit still subject to the Territorial Clause
1966 - Article III federal court the same as the states (the other territories still have Article IV federal courts)
1970 - Federal minimum wage extended to Puerto Rico

Colonialism as a concept is wrong and outdated. It's ridiculous that America has been holding on to Puerto Rico as a colony for over 100 years now. What's the purpose of it? The Philippines has moved on and they are better off because of that now. Why are we dragging around Puerto Rico?

You aren't seeing the bigger picture though. Look what this has done to the Island. When things are bad, people just leave, and Puerto Rico as a nation never improves. Then, our federal gov. endlessly throws money at PR to fix things up. Our colonial relationship with PR has proven to be unproductive. It's time to end it.
I'm glad the NAACP came around and spoke out against colonialism. Independence for Puerto Rico might gain more support from left-leaning people because of this.

They don't need to barrow money, their senators and congressmen (with overbalanced representation due to the Electoral College and equal representation) steal money from New Yorkers and Californians on their behalf. The producing states like New York, California, and Colorado are being robbed blind by the taker states.
