I was wondering, does anyone know if construction on the PR-22 extension is still planned to start this year? I know that it was announced last year that construction should begin sometime later this year, however, with the financial problems that Puerto Rico is facing, I wonder if it has been postponed.
Doing a Google search on news articles, there doesn't appear to be any news about a postponement of construction. In addition, as far as I know, the extension will be funded through private financing by Metropistas.
The planned route is supposed to be a hybrid route, where some portions will involve conversion of PR-2 into freeway standards while other portions will run in its own right-of-way. This planned route replaces an earlier proposal that would have placed the entire route south of PR-2 due to concerns about the dairy farms in the karst region.
