Among 109 letters to the NYTimes editorial board, they picked mine as a NEW YORK TIMES pick in its cyber version. ITS THE FOLLOWING.
Puerto Rico has been a colony/Territory/Commonwealth , take your pick, for close to 118 years. Its gone from the the poor house of the Caribbean in the first fifty years of American rule, to the answer to communism during the Cold War, to a bankrupt colony, territory subject to the full powers of Congress. It has an american citizen ship given collectively by a congressional law and only works 100% if you leave the island. Its an unincorporated territory with no hope of becoming a state unless congress moves it to become incorporated. Is it any wonder that it finds itself in a pickle? We are people that function like an an independent nation for some things, like having an independent olympic representation. Its culturally tied to the Hispanic world by history and language. Congress has refused letting its elected officials decide or come up with plans for an economic recovery. Its difficult to live an existence of not knowing where you stand, not have controls, either by full an annexation, Free association or independence.
The Congress said Today that in order for Puerto Rico to become a State, Puerto Ricans need to fix their economy. This is funny because those same Congressmen told the PNP Party to cause an economic debacle in order to move Congress into dealing with Statehood. The Pro Statehood Party has been fooled in the most epic way possible. ELA will also be dismantled now and Puerto Ricans are going to be pushed to a cliff and asked to decide what to do.

Sometimes I feel im not dealing with a full set of cards on this forum. Lizzette Alvarez is the autor of the Times Article. On its internet version, as within its paper version, you have a right to make comments. I deal with the internet section.
Comments are divided between readers comments, comments picked by other readers and finally, comments picked by the editorial board of the Times. I fell in a the last category. You can't access the times comments unless you have an internet subscription.

I was unaware that comments were the same as letters to the editor, I guess it is something new...
In the end it was just a comment on an internet article, don't get too excited.....
