I don't think very many people will be moving there anytime soon. The only exception might be White retirees and others attracted by low property costs. Remember, one can buy oceanfront property for well under $150,000 in many towns.

I just watched an interview with the PR Governor on TV. The show also talked to a man who will be teaching a course in TX about the infrastructure in PR, and how it got to where it is.

These men know what is wrong and know how to fix it, but they cannot. It’s like bailing the ocean with a spoon. What is wrong is that the banks, and 78 tiny political entities are, at best, self serving and at worst corrupt.

I doubt that the US will grant statehood, it’s not like we need their problems, we already have plenty, but the only hope for change in PR is if they did.

Since, judging by the graffiti on the boarded up storefronts, the folks don’t want no stinkin gringos telling them what to do, it would be best to just let PR go back to being an independent country. Sink or swim.

Puerto Rico has never been an independent country ... and 95% of them don't want to be one. You say "we don't need their problems" ... well guess what? The United States is already responsible for their problems

I get a real kick out of these people who speak of fellow Americans in terms like "sink or swim". Well Ms GentleHearts when are the Southern White trash going to "sink or swim" instead of leeching off New York taxpayers? Are you going to tell me that there's no graffiti on boarded up windows in Georgia?

One way or another your either stuck with Puerto Rico or your going to be stuck with the Puerto Ricans. Either way you will pay for them. Transfer payments to Florida or transfer payments to Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican problem isn't going away.

Republicans truly are disgusting hypocrites. They want Puerto Ricans to 'sink or swim' because (let's be honest, they're considered "brown") yet they have no problems with Blue States subsidizing the ever worsening slate of red states.

Why should I be forced to pay for whites in West Virginia and Kentucky who are drowning in welfare, food stamps, Medicaid yet still vote GOP because they care more about screwing over Blacks and queers? Why should I subsidize Kansans who voted for incompetent GOP rule and now their schools are shutting down and their economy is collapsing?

As always, the Republicans think they are the only ones who work and that America would collapse without GOP dollars. In reality, red states suck on the Federal teat while blue states pay the costs.

That's basically it; Republicans think they are the only "real Americans", that they float the entire country, and on and on. Meanwhile Republican dominated states are economic basket cases participating in an endless race to the bottom.

New York gets back 84 cents for every dollar we send to Washington.
New York gives billions more than it gets in federal spending | New York Post

Alabama in comparison gets $2 for every dollar it sends to Washington. Yet they think they subsidize the Puerto Ricans

funny how you generalized all Republicans......do you agree with everything all the democrats say? do you agree with Luis Gutierrez from Chicago who is against statehood for P.R. and the socialists like Bernie in that party?

Texas and Florida are Republicans states from top to bottom, they don't have a state income tax (thanks to Republicans) but that doesn't stop Puerto Ricans and Latinos moving to those states to live under Republican state governments.

I wonder why Puerto Ricans rather go to Florida and Texas over Democrat high tax states like New York and California?

Many Puerto Ricans rather live in Republicans run states like Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina than the high taxes democrat run states like New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California.

They go to Florida because the weather is warm and it reminds them of Puerto Rico.

Also, I'm neither a Democrat or a Republican. I'm an independent. I support some conservative ideas (particularly on defense and foreign policy) and some liberal ideas (especially on social issues). I'm centrist on fiscal policy.

Orlando looks nothing like Puerto Rico.....and warm weather you can get that in California, New Mexico and Hawaiii( Hawaii looks more like P.R and same weather) but a high cost of living and high taxes.

They go to Florida because of good jobs, NO state income tax, good schools and better access to own a home.

If you are going to go off on the Republicans like you always do, be specific in what laws or proposals you are against and what exactly you want instead, instead of saying all Republicans bad and give no explanation what you are against or for.

how should taxes be?
immigration
who should have more control the feds or the states?
education
welfare reform
how much federal aid should the feds give P.R.

they go to Florida becuz its the closest state to Puerto Rico, and reminds the most of PR (out of all the other states), Florida feels like a mix of the US south, US northeast which also has alot of Ricans, and the Caribbean.

They go to democrat states (NY, NJ, CT, MA, IL, MD), Republican states (NC, GA, TX), & Swing states (PA, VA, OH).

swing states????? Presidents don't run states or write state law and tax laws for the states!!!

Pennsylvania: GOP controlled Legislation 121 to 82. GOP controlled state Senate: 34 to 16

Ohio: GOP controlled legislation: 66 to 33. GOP controlled the state Senate: 24 to 9

Virginia: GOP controlled legislation: 66 to 34 GOP controlled state Senate 21 to 19

Florida: GOP controlled legislation: 77 to 41 GOP controlled state Senate 24 to 16.

Texas: GOP controlled legislation: 95 to 55 GOP controlled state Senate 20 to 11.

Puerto Rican go to the states for different reasons and needs......some go where they have JOBS, low taxes, good schools and good public services and low crime rate.....other go to be where their families are and jobs are not a priority for them as long that they are with family and other Puerto Ricans, tribalism mentality.

returning to my point that you missed so badly, if Republicans=BAD and Democrats= Good, like you always argue here, then why so many Ricans move and stay and are doing well in Republican-run states like Florida and Texas and others and are states with lower taxes and a lower cost of living compare to Democrat-run states and cities?
