Hi all,

I'm set to fly to Puerto Rico from May 25-29, and USVI from 5/30-6/1.

Should I cancel my vacation? I booked on Southwest, so can push back/cancel without penalty. But I've heard both are starting to re-open.

Though I'm not a big foodie, I would want to see the beaches and visit the tourist attractions.

I would cancel. A family member of mine is in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, on the east side of the island, and she says it's extremely strict down there because of coronavirus.

Police walk the streets and you are not allowed to go for walks or anything. Beach is closed. Police stop and question you. No restaurant is open. Nothing is open.

many restrictions including the curfew are set to expire may 25th but there's always the risk that they are extended. as one would expect from an island with plenty of sun and heat, numbers are pretty low.

It's a tough call, if your trip was the last week of June and the first week of July I'd say to go ahead but given that's only two weeks I think it's iffy. As we are seeing stateside, just because the lockdown is over doesn't necessarily mean that most business will be open.

Also, as Pman said there's a chance the lockdown could be extended ... I think it's unlikely as there's no evidence of widespread infection in Puerto Rico but it's still possible. Here in New York it just keeps getting pushed up and up and up, I think it's now been extended until June 13th.

I would stay home and uphold all Social Distancing recommendations. PR and the USVI will be there next year. If you go now (God forbid), you may not be there next year
