In retrospec Trump is a business person first and having the territory has never made sense.

Puerto Rico doesnt share a similar culture or language as America. Puerto Rico hasnt really offered America much outside of a (slowly disappearing) Navy location, and America never actually seeked out to the own the country. Puerto Rico doesnt want statehood and has only been a financial burden for Americans.

Puerto Rico should be given its independence just like other American territories have in the past like the Philippines and free rule for themselves.

Go from an island that is overpopulated, lush with vegitation, and a wonderful climate (especially in its montainous interior) to an island that is either cool or cold all the time, hardly has people, and is mostly barren.

Greenland has beautiful landscapes, rich in resources, makes more sense for logistics of the US military. Puerto Ricos beaches are subpar and its been a financial drain on the states.

Not sure Trump's motivation, but I could see Republicans getting behind independence movements in Blue states like Hawaii or a potential future state like P.R. to keep from getting washed out of power by demographic changes. An ironic change, in the 1800s pro slavery conservatives wanted to annex Caribbean slave states to gain political power. In contrast anti slavery Liberals were against any annexations south of the Mason Dixon line.

Sell it to who?

DJT certainly has some nutty ideas. Maybe get a big mortgage on it then default/declare bankruptcy!

I suspect Puerto Rico would get "more mileage" being a Canadian province/territory considering it would be the only "warm" climate in Canada and unlike America which already has access to warm climates. That being said if language/culture was a barrier with America it would be the same issue with Canada.
