Hi! My boyfriend is obsessed with the island and has been really on me about moving there. He had previously lived there in his 20s (in his 40s now) and apparently the way of life for him was his Glory Days. I have an adult child with intellectual disabilities and epilepsy. She does a lot in her own but could never live on her own . We live in New York and have access to everything she needs.
I’ve been to the island just once, for only a few days, and didn’t really connect with the island since it was all about visiting his friends and reliving the old days.
I’m not excited about the thought of being cut off from the mainland due to hurricanes or whatever else as it could impact my daughter getting her seizure meds on time. Is that a real thing? Am I overthinking this? Also are there good work to life programs or job training for those with intellectual disabilities?
Likely my answer will be No, but I thought I’d give St Croix a fair shot, in theory at least. Likely he will move without us.
Thank you for any input !

If the BF is so keen for you to move there with him, maybe he should make an effort to look into support services your daughter will need (as well as fallbacks when the next hurricane does happen) and make sure they exist. If they don't, you know your answer. Make sure your insurance coverage extends there too.
