An interesting point of view expressed here regarding the displacement of many Puerto Ricans out of Puerto Rico by non-Puerto Ricans (mostly Americans from the mainland) move in. It also looks at the possible resentments by locals.
I wonder how extensive this is compared to Puerto Ricans that leave Puerto Rico in search of better opportunities and not because they feel displaced by the non-Puerto Ricans? Usually, the welcome mat is present until the amount of non-locals is enough to negatively affect the locals, then the welcome mat is removed. That's part of human nature.
1) I don't understand the videos. 30 million for the house? the previous owner made a lot of money. I can get a mansion 2 times bigger in Park City for less than 5 million. Who controls the market in the island? isn't it the consumers.
2) Where do you find these racists and bigots in Puerto Rico? If a U.S. Citizen has the money and buys a property and built a nice house and pay the taxes who are these people telling them they can't come and to leave? If Americans said they same thing to 7 million Puerto Ricans in the 50 states that come to live and work We would have a national crisis.
3) You have a lady that rented a condo and the owner sold it and the new owner wants to re-build more condos and ask them to leave when the lease was up because the demand will pay more, this is business not charity. What's the crisis? Don't you know when you rent the lease expires on the date you signed? that's why if you don't want that to you, you buy your property and don't rent. The laws for tenants in Puerto Rico are very pro tenants compared to most of the states. These people want new condos and luxury and pay below market price. They are paying $600 a month for a luxury condo with pool and tennis court with the view to the ocean????? Tell them to get to the housing waiting list if they want cheap housing.
4) This is a left wing bashing to capitalism. The guy that moved to Quebradillas has a plan to make the economy grow but the girl that made the video had to remind viewers that he was a Republican in the states like it's a bad word. Does it matter what party he was in the states? He is a business man and every business that comes to Puerto has to get permissions and pay taxes and fees to do business in the island to the Puerto Rico government. They call the shots.
5) You buy what you can afford. You live within your means. If you can't afford a luxury condo with a pool and tennis court with property maintenance then you move to a cheaper place without a pool or tennis court and you can do your own maintenance and live within your means. This is just class warfare. Life is not fair.
6) If I invest in Puerto Rico, any earnings I make I have to pay to the government of P.R. and keep the property up to standards. To lift Puerto Rico from poverty they need outside investors to come in and upgrade the place so more people come with more money and invest in business. That's how the money moves around. It's a lot better than the old option of federal aid and pass poverty to one generation after the other.
7) I feel ashamed in how some Puerto Ricans in the island treat Americans that come to the island with an open heart and money to invest in the place and put it on the map and they attack her character and tell her to leave and call her a colonizer but they love federal funds to keep coming. What's up when that girl using the term "Gringa", like a derogatory term. Like the woman doesn't have a name. She is mad because she doesn't earn money to buy a cheap place and work it and sell it for a higher profit. I bet you she is under welfare and have babies at a young age and she latches out at the American woman that does everything legal. This is the new generation that expects that she is entitled to things.
I don't understand the logic of the videos. The girl that made the video wants socialism for Puerto Rico and nationalized the housing market? I'm glad I left the island because that island is too small to deal with them.
these young Ricans that complain in the video say that they are paying for these high quality housing? How, they don't pay taxes. Class envy at it's finest. Do these people feel the same when they pay money for the rappers and singers they adored. They adore Bad Bunny 18 million net worth and when he drives his Bugatti Chiron $3 million car in the island with the garbage music he makes. They have no problem with that. They celebrate his wealth like it's their own.
These videos show the young left in Puerto Rico. Envy and full of resentment and entitled.
Here is a quote in the YT comments on the 2nd video.
" When she was my girl, I cheated on her, didn't invest in her, neglected her and really didn't care about her.
When her friend visited us in 2017 I decided not to stay.
Now other men are courting her. Paying more attention to her, and spending more on her than I was ever willing to do.
Life ain't fair."
Sums it up pretty well.
As a kid in the 60's I spent time on the family farm in Ireland. Back then the country was all Irish.
Later many American companies came and set up shop. The economy grew fast and furious.
There wasn't enough help to get things done, so in came the Romanians, Polish, etc...
Economy crashed, now these people they needed stole their jobs!
Things change. Yesterday is gone. Love PR and thought about moving there myself with my family.
But Act 60 keeps changing....... for the worse.... Before you could rent a home. Now you have to buy within a year.
Earlier each person filing taxes had to make a donation yearly like $500-2500..... Now it's 15,000 each.
Where does it end. If your a couple that's 30k so you Have to make good money to have it make sense.
Sales tax is high. Local taxes still have to be paid.
The last video at the end claiming there is no proof of Act 60 being beneficial is a joke!
As if all of the responsibility for the welfare of the island was up to Act 60 is preposterous...
Um there was Maria in 17, and continued corruption by the politician's and staggering debt. Lastly the continued export of the citizenry.
Eliminate the Jones act. Secure other tax breaks that Clinton killed for R&D, don't become a state...
Statehood I think will make it Hawaii like.
The first video with the woman with the baby cracks me up. She was renting with her partner (he looks like a beach bum) and baby and the landlord told her he is coming back and when she was talking to realtors and they were telling her that they like Americans that have no problem paying rent on time and even pay an advanced and deposit. I'm like "Yeah? What's the problem"? they are in business to make money not to lose money. Why would they put priority people with no consistent work history and can't pay the rent?
Then she says she was walking in the streets of Aguadilla and she heard a "Gringo" (her words) saying that he moved to Puerto Rico after the hurricane and she got offended by it saying a lot of people died during the hurricane and many left and was outrage by the comment. I'm like " What does the American has to do with the hurricane and people that died or leaving????" Then the same woman says that Americans that come to Puerto Rico to invest and make the place better affects her life and she resents it. Then she made another anti-American comment, that she wants the natives to do it and don't need outsiders to come to the island and do it but she doesn't complain about the federal funds she gets for her and her baby. That outside funds she gladly accepts.
Is not our fault she hooked up with a beach bum that got her pregnant and she can't do for herself what she wants. If Aguadilla don't have opportunities then move to San Juan, Bayamon, Caguas, Carolina or Ponce. Learn a trade and speak English or move to the states for a few years and save up and comeback to the island and do the things she is complaining about the Gringa. I'm glad I left the island and don't have to deal with people like that. I feel bad for the American woman, she was crying and you can tell she cares about Puerto Rico and wants to make it better and you have these haters from the island demeaning her and calling her a colonist and names and then you have the maker of her video not calling out the racism and b.s. This is the new left in Puerto Rico.
The part at the end of the first video, the woman that has to move from the fancy condo, says that her daughter told her it was a shame that she had to move that she loves that place. I'm like: " yeah, I'm sure you do . A fancy condo with a beach view balcony, pool and tennis court and maintenance for $600 a month was a steal and she was visiting Mommy a lot" No wonder the previous owner sold it, he was losing money with these people. The new owner said: I need to throw these people out or I have to go bankrupt running these place.

Yes pretty much. The maker of the video forgot to play the violin in the background for the woman that had to leave the fancy condo with beach views, pool, tennis court and maintenance for $600 a month because the previous owner sold it and the new owner knows $600 it's a joke if you want to keep up a fancy condo standards. This is class warfare at it best and the lady that made the video is a lefty.
I'm Puerto Rican, I would have kicked them all out if I bought that condo. You pay market value or get the hell out. I rent my mother's house in Bayamon of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathroom, updated kitchen and bathroom, 3 car garage with patio on a dead end street for $500 a month and my mom gave the tenants a gift because they attend the same church. When my mother passes way, I'm raising the rent or kick them all out. Charity time is over. Don't be shocked if you find me in these Youtube videos being attacked by the lefty woman and the anti-capitalists in the island.
"the landlord died and her son "the gringo mutt Puerto Rican traitor" took over and he told me that the rent will go up market value or We have to leave. What are my 6 family members grown ups are going to do???? Life is not fair" (the author plays the violin in the background) then she turns the camera to me and stops the violin and starts breaking me down and what I personally own: "You have a nice house in the states and drive a Lexus, have a small boat why are you throwing these people out? you left Puerto Rico years ago, why are you raising their rent? You don't need all that money. Why are you throwing your people to the curb, she is a woman?
Then she turns the video camera back to the woman and turns on the background violin music and shoots the woman packing and crying. Then shuts off the camera and forgets to tell the public that the tenants took the faucets and toilet seats and patio furniture and left massive garbage in the property and refused to pay the last 2 months of rent and I have to pay endless money and a long time trying to get that money in court.
They call it the "Ay bendito" syndrome in the island. It's part of why the island is the way it is.

This video and the responses to it are reason #42,234,562 why Puerto Ricans are NOT Americans and why they need to be independent.
Listen to how they talk about Americans. They don't even want honest people who are doing nothing but bringing money to the island.

Pump your brakes Charlie. This is a home made video about 10 people or less. They don't represent 7 million of Puerto Ricans. I can find people in the cities in the U.S. that hate white people and hate the country or vice versa. They don't represent the whole 340 million people nation.
If the Puerto Rico government allows this that means they don't think like the minority in the island. The reason I crack jokes at these people is because I'm from the island and I always found the small movement in the left funny but I find them all over the U.S. You should check out Portland. These people are out there. They attack capitalism everyday.
The young girl with the baby is just young and immature (cute) but you can tell in her eyes that she is resentful about the system and she lashes out at the person she sees with better status than her and an easy target. The old lady at the high end condo is just a manipulator with the "ay bendito" syndrome. She reminds of George Jefferson's mother in the classic sitcom the Jeffersons. (anybody that seen it gets my point) It's like an Italian saying of the old lady with a huge ham on under her arm and complaining that she doesn't have any bread.
The maker of the video is a very educated Puerto Rican from the small independence left movement that speaks very well English and Spanish and has a good future working as a reporter with the Puerto Rican media since most are like her or Univision . Or a professor at the University of Puerto Rico. A lot like her. She reminds me of Alexandria Lugaro. You can go very far in UTube and t.v. these days if you are good looking woman and know how to speak but they don't fool everybody. I know what they are pushing and is perfectly legal. She is getting lots of clicks at least she is getting paid.
The more I see the videos the more it cracks me up. You have a tenant that is suing the American investor that is upgrading the high end condo that he legally bought and paid all the taxes and permissions to the government of Puerto Rico and has every right to charge market value or make a nice hotel that creates local jobs because she says he discriminates against people of low income from buying. LMAO! That's like suing Porsche of Puerto Rico for making high end cars and charging premium prices that the low income consumers can't afford. If I'm the judge I would tell her to buy a Honda or take the public bus or ride a bike.
Thanks for the videos Antonio. It reminds me of my days in the island. What can you do? those are my people.
