Hello: I will be traveling with a puppy back home to the States. I need to find a carrier that is airline acceptable, preferably with soft sides. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you!

Might want to try Walmart

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. - Puerto Rico

Any restrictions on bringing pets back?

How is your trip going?

Default Motormaker

I tried the closest Walmart, Mall, and Kmart...they all have hard carriers, not the one with the soft sides and the one place that did have soft sides, didn't have the right size, go figure...so I ordered one online from petsmart.com. As you may have figured out, I found a stray puppy whom I've adopted. She was walking around in a plaza and was almost hit right in front of me at least 4 times. I've seen a lot of that here, but I think that is everywhere. Anyway, after an hour, I was able to "catch" her and well, she's mine now! In fact, I named her "Mia" which in case you don't know, means mine in Spanish. I had her checked out, vaccinated and she's coming home with me to the states! We have cats and a dog at home so she'll fit right in. In fact, we were looking into getting our current dog a companion so the timing was great! As for restrictions,I called the airline and asked about that, the carrier has to be the correct dimensions, my arline, Delta, charges $100-for the pet in the cabin, one way. I also have to show proof that she's up to date with vaccinations and that she is ok to fly. The certificate to fly has to be within 10 days of the flight itself.

As for the trip, I'm halfway there!!! It was challenging at first, but it's grown on me. I agree with everything the forum has read (good and bad) and even made a friend. She and her family have shown me around to places that I otherwise would not have known about and I've gone to 2 beaches so far. I plan to go once more next week, but don't worry, I'm getting my work done in between! Thanks for asking! Take care!

Glad it's working out for you. I know it can be intimidating at first. It's great to buddy up with a local that can tell/show you about the many different places.

I used to hang out at the Malecon (sp) in Ponce on Fri and Sat nights. Met a lot of folks and the music and dancing was great.

The co I worked for was also IL based.

Bless you! How nice of you to adopt a sato! It's so heartbreaking to see them roaming the streets without a home, or love! I wish I could adopt them all!
