I didn't read the article so can't comment. Maybe the writer didn't go to St Croix but only to St Thomas and St John (no 's!) so didn't feel sufficiently educated about St Croix to address it?
The article by David Allan which was entitled Affordable Caribbean: US Virgin Islands was printed in the NYT on January 25, 2009 and referenced by the STX Source four months later (yesterday) on May 27, 2009.
The other article you reference from the NYT was written by Jeremy Peters, clearly referenced St Thomas only and was printed in October 2007.
I guess in order to better clarify, the former might better have been titled "Affordable Caribbean: St Thomas and St John," but the latter clearly was referencing St Thomas only.
I believe the travel articles featured in the NYT are written by freelance writers so if no freelancer has been to STX with the purpose of writing about that island then there's not much that can be done about it except to bring it to the attention of the STX Hotel Association who I'm sure have contacts they could access to make it worthwhile for a writer with ties to the NYT to visit the island!
Generally speaking there is plenty of interest in STX as a vacation destination as is evidenced on many, many travel forums, so I don't think STX is necessarily short-changed where exposure is concerned. Cheers!
Ergo one must assume that I don't understand your particular sense of humor which in this case is true as I don't understand "the joke" in this case. Is this some inside "island joke" of which I'm not aware? Pray tell! Educate me!
