Back when I was a teen (like around the time of the song whose lyrics I parody here), I had a knack for making (often dark and raunchy) "joke" versions of songs.

So with that I leave you this, done to the tune of Nena's "99 Red Balloons" from another dark economic time, the early 80s. If you don't know the 'original' song, listen to it on You Tube and/or look up the lyrics then apply this:

99 Stressful Weeks (done to the tune of "99 Red Baloons")

Sit and cry at a little food shop
Buy whatever you can with the money you’ve got
No more left by the break of dawn
Cause one by one, the weeks are gone
Back at home, the unpaid bills mount
Flash to the brain, one can’t live here
Moving to the streets to cry
As 99 stressful weeks go bye

99 Stressful Weeks
At least there was food and a home
Panic time, still have no job
The pols say “drugged up, lazy slobs”
The war machine still gets their pie
When we need help, they won’t say “aye”
What to do, we’re left to die
As 99 stressful weeks go bye

99 bills to defeat
When 99 Senators meet
They worry, worry, fight and scurry
"Solve the debt in a damn hurry"
This is what we waited for?
They sit, do nothing, cause class war
The President just sits and whines
As 99 stressful weeks go bye

99 fight on the air
Schultz, Maddow, all those in support
They’re the “niners” superheroes
Help the fallen fight for work
With missions to identify
Condemn, defend and rectify
A beacon in a troubled sky
As 99 stressful weeks go bye

99 weeks we have had
And every one there were no jobs
It’s all over and we’re moving on
To obscurity and oblivion
We hope there’ll be a souvenier
To prove past jobs and lives were here
And here is our last 2 cents
We think of you and let them go…..

Note: This is meant to show their plight in a somewhat humorous way (albeit somewhat "gallows humor"), NOT to make fun of nor condemn the 99ers! I'm not one (yet!) but sympathize greatly.

Check out this mixed German/French version (of the original song) done last year. She's pretty smokin' for 50 (OK she was 49 when this was done..... ). Looks like she barely aged from the original video when she was just 23.....

That is a terrific parody ! I really like it and it is not a downer, but a lesson in reality, IMO.
I write the things too, mine are the weird al type, I love parodies.
This is a doozy, it is not an easy song to work with, Congrats !!
Wish Hollyweird and the Book Publishers were still accessible to the ordinary guy/gal !
Some days they run through my head without my permission, wish I could have a job writing the stuff, lol.
Here is one of my oldies, "the world's shortest parody"
"You think that people would have had enough of silly love songs-
Well they have."

Thanks; it was the "99" in that song that made me think to parody that one.

I would like to see a you tube vid of that one, with subtitles. Blessing to all 99ers and all of us.
