Not to worry - cut in food stamps not effective until 2014 - but of course another hysterical out of context sound bite to rile the masses and keep the 24/hr news cycle going.
A lot can happen between now and then - things will get better - or worse - and this 'cut' won't matter much either way because a whole new set of solutions will be needed by than.

Delaying the effects of budget decisions one of the dirtiest tricks in the political toolbox.
You can't get mad now because nothing's going to get cut for four years so you're hysterical if you react and you can't get mad in four years because with all the changes to the budget in the meantime, who can say what the effect of this "one little change" really was or even remember that it happened in the first place?
Funding for programs like food stamps that preserve the health and sanity of the people our society is built on top of should never be cut when there are so many other programs that could be cut or sources of money our government could tap into it that would actually improve things rather than make them worse.
I agree with you in principle, SweaterFish. But, unfortunately, Congressional gridlock (a/k/a the Party of No) prevents anything positive being accomplished anymore without destruction and dismantling somewhere else. But, you are right. We'll see what kind of a mess this country is in in 2014.
