hi.. i just finished a tier...got my last check on that tier and it now says to claim my benefits 1 week later (this thurday) but it says i have $0 balance. do i need to call an agent on moving to the next tier to have a balance?...even though the site says it's automatic in nj? or can i just claim benefits online this thursday even though it says i have a 0 balance. or should i call the phone number and claim that way because information is updated faster on the phone instead of the computer. will money be there? thanks in advance to anyone that can help

I believe you will move on to the next tier.

Unless your year has expired at which point you would call.

If you hear : Claim has expired : call.

If you are allowed to file your claim via phone or internet this week, then you can assume that you have moved to the next tier.

No. If you wish to confirm that your account has been credited, you can call your local UI office -- but it is not necessary to call to have the balance updated for the new Tier.

In New Jersey, when you exhaust a level of unemployment benefits, your claim is automatically reviewed for eligibility for the next level of benefits.

When you complete a Tier, you generally are eligible for the next Tier available. Just follow the instructions you received and file your claim as usual on the date you have been instructed to. BTW, it doesn't matter whether you file online or on the phone -- your claim will be processed in the same amount of time.

The zero balance you see on your last form simply means that you have exhausted that level. Your account is automatically credited with the next Tier's payments after your exhaust the previous Tier's balance.
