I don't know about you - but it's hard finding support...I feel day to day I just stare at articles on my computer about how bad it is...I made a group/association on Facebook.

I tried the unemployment boards here on City Data - and I felt like they needed to be more locally focused.

Please encourage your California friends to join our group, just search on FB, for "Unemployed Professionals Association"

We're also on LinkedIn

I'm in CA-

I wanted to share something with you- or anyone reading, really.

The other day I came home from doing errands and logged on to my email expecting to find the same ol' same ol'- when much to my surprise, there was an email from an old colleague that I worked with- many years ago. We became good friends through that job but had recently lost touch. I had some personal family issues going on and basically kinda cut people off while I sorted it all out. During that time, I lost my job to boot.........didn't make for a good social topic so I steered clear from friends.
Anyway- while I was reading this email-a simple request to join her LinkedIn, I realized something. I need to get in touch again. I can't do this alone this time. I need help.
I was going to ignore her request but instead, I responded.....and with that, we exchanged several emails yesterday and today. I told her the truth about what was going on with me. She was heartsick about it all and was upset that I failed to reach out to her.......And just like that, she said there is an opening at a company locally here in my area and that a recruiter for her company is looking for someone to fill it but wanted a referral rather than hire off the street - It's an EA/ Project Coordinator position. 65k per year. Just like that, my resume is now in the hands of the recruiter and today she set up an interview for me for Wednesday of next week. Wha la. The rest is up to me.

The moral of the story- Turn every rock over.......Even if you think it will lead no where, you may just be wrong. Look up every person you've ever met in your life. Friends, foes, family- Everyone. There may just be an opportunity that isn't posted or in plain view. Ask for help. I wished I had a year ago.

Anyway- I'll look at your link.
