My claim expired on 3/28/11. My 1 year is up. I recently found a job and started on 3/28/11. I have a claim form for the weeks of 3/20/11 to 3/26/11 and 3/27/11 to 4/2/11. I just received a letter dated 3/28/11 from the EDD that my claim is now expired. No surprise. I should be able to collect for the week of 3/20/11 to 3/26/11. Since I am now working full time its hard to call the EDD during normal hours because I work 8-5 M-F.

I just want my claim to end as of 3/28/11 so do I have to call or mail anything? It sounds as if my claim is expired anyway. Do I just mail the claim form for the week of 3/20/11 to 3/26/11? If the claim is expired how do I get paid for 3/20/11 to 3/26/11? I'm confused. Thanks for any help you might have.

Sorry I don't have the answer for you, but, I've had luck contacting them by email rather than phone for questions. You can send a message and they usually get back to you within 24hrs, or sooner. Good luck, and congrats on the job!

You just stop claiming UI money for the week you started working again and your UI account will close from inactivity.

If your claim year has expired and you want to collect for that last week, you will likely have to follow procedure and re-file... but many states tend to do that automatically for you so it's possible all you have to do is submit your claim. ( You should list your state for someone familiar with your state's procedures to respond. )

FYI, if you get laid off again before the end of this year, you may be able to re-open your old claim again to collect on the extensions.
In that case, you would again need to file to see if you are eligible for a new unemployment claim first.

Yes -- your benefit year ended on March 28, which means you are eligible to collect for the week ended March 26 without certifying for a new benefit year. Just mail the claim form for that week.

If you have returned to work the week after, simply do nothing about your unemployment claim. If EDD does not hear from you, they will assume that you returned to work and that you no longer will be claiming benefits.

Note that some states UI departments do require that you inform them when you return to work -- but that is not the case in California.

Thanks. Whats weird is that on the claim form they listed both 2 weeks even though my claim was scheduled to end on 3/28/11 so why is the week of 3/27/11 to 4/2/11 not all xxxxx out? Do I leave that week blank and fill out the questions or just write what I have earned and put working full time?

Why is this so confussing? Do what you would do normally, if you have wages for that week, report them, if your working full time, report it. umm 3/27 comes before 3/28???

The second week is not blocked out because if you continued to be unemployed you would still file for that week.

You are credited for the week in which your BYE occurs, but you are not paid for weeks that that you are unemployed after your BYE until you re-certify. Once you re-certify for the next benefit year, your payment for any weeks for which you were credited after the BYE would be released.

You can either leave the second week on the form blank or you can enter that you began working full time then, Either response is acceptable.
