I wouldn't mind eating for free/reduced cost.

Does it sound like I would qualify for food stamps? (Male, single, 20's, unemployment, Unemployment benefits, a few grand in his bank account?)

Link to the mass.gov site:

http://www.mass.gov

This online calculator isn't totally in-depth, but it should give you an idea as to whether or not you qualify. You want to find the link for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

If you have a few grand in the bank, you won't qualify.

I think it goes by your income, not the money in the bank. I would apply. I think you would qualify.

Depending on the state, cash assets definitely affect qualifying for food stamps, also the value of your car.

In CA, they don't consider your car, but if you have any money in the bank, forget it. I'm getting them, and it's so much of a hassle, it's not even worth it. This is the second time that I've had to get them, and the first time they overpaid me, then said I had to pay it back. After I did that, I found out a year later, that they had issued benefits to a closed account. I inquired about getting it back, but I would have had to go through an appeal, and it wasn't worth it.

You know, I don't think those soup kitchens for the "homeless" require ID / background checks... so you might want to research for charitable events & organizations in your state.

I just tried applying in ca and although I am employed and only get $1448 monthly I do not qualify for any assistance. I guess that's the government's way of saying I don't need to eat.
